great movieOriginally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIf you have never seen Whiplash, you should watch it while it is streaming on Netflix. One of my all-time favorites. Enjoyed it just as much on my second viewing. In particular, I love the ending and how they leave the central questions of the movie unanswered. And the state farm dude makes an amazing villian.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

Yeah, it is in my queue. Looking forward to it.Originally posted by SteelBlue View Post
Oops I didn't even look. I think you'll like this one a lot. Edo period Japan. The artwork is insanely good.
I watch anime on Netflix/Hulu occasionally to keep my Japanese sharp but most of it is hot garbage. Kind of a shame (for me) to have such a good series focused on Japan but no Japanese option."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? You should check out Crunchyroll. Every anime series on there in your language of choice for not very much per month. like $3-5?. I'm sure you can find a series that isn't hot garbage.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

I should check it out, but I am finding other japanese series (non-anime) as well. But I have found a couple of podcasts that are good practice.Originally posted by Commando View Post

As for anime, Death Note ruined me. It is so good that everything else seems cheesy by comparison."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I've heard of Death Note, of course, but just haven't watched it. I did enjoy the Simpsons' Treehouse of Terror short devoted to it, too.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Oh man, you have to watch it. Kind of a goofy premise but the cat-and-mouse back and forth is brilliant.Originally posted by Commando View Post

If it's anything like the Simpsons tribute episode, I'm going to be too creeped out to be too put off by any goofiness. I'll check it out.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

The We Are The World documentary is hilarious in parts. Lionel Richie recounting dealing with Michael Jackson's menagerie while writing the song at Jackson's house is great. Then you see it dawn on Bob Dylan that he can't remotely sing the song. Cyndi Lauper was bad.
And then you have Daryl Hall and Steve Perry who were clearly tremendous vocalists, not to mention Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Hey I just watched this, too. Pretty great. Steve Perry is an absolute monster-- holy moly. Michael is in another class as well. I wouldn't say any of the others are 'bad' but maybe just not their style of vocals. Huey Lewis was pretty relatable as he's talking about shitting his pants waiting for his part that he doesn't get to practice bc Stevie Wonder and the first few guys kept starting over and redoing their parts...Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostThe We Are The World documentary is hilarious in parts. I've enjoyed several episodes of Live from Daryl's House over the years. Not sure if he's doing new stuff, but in every episode his bonafides become quite clear.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View Post
