The "did you know this streams on Netflix?" thread
I haven’t logged into Netflix for awhile. I just went in to see what was new.
Listed under “Family Favorites”, they have The Professional, Desparado, The Whole 9 Yards, The Lincoln Lawyer, Under Seige, and other movies rated R filled with Violence, sex and nudity. I’m no prude, but labeling these family oriented movies doesn’t seem right.

Maybe those are your family’s favorites.

Formula 1 ratings up 39% over 2019. The speculation is this is largely due to the Netflix F1 show, which is a really great. I've watched most of the races this year. There's a very compelling championship run between Verstappen, destined to be one of the greats, vs Lewis Hamilton who is arguably the GOAT though many/most will say it's still Schumacher. I love it.
F1 is looking to capitalize on the increased interest and there will be two US grands prix next year, one in Texas and one in Miami. There's even a rumor of creating a street race grand prix in Las Vegas.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

They did a street race about 10-12 years ago in Vegas. Not F1, maybe it was Indi.

An American media company bought F1 a few years ago. The Netflix series was part of the overall strategy to grow things in the US. They've had two races in the US in the past and I think they want a third. Going beyond that, I'm sure they'd like one in Canada and more in the western hemisphere in general because a major impediment are the race times starting at between 9AM to 6AM in the US time zones due to most of the races taking place in Europe and/or middle east. Running a race that starts at around 2 PM east coast time corresponds with 7 and 8 PM in Europe, so they're killing two birds with one stone. The European base gets prime time races and they get much better start times in the US -- not to mention better start times for fans in South America where the sport is much bigger than here in the US.

I know they've raced F1 in Montreal. Some friends of mine traveled for the race a few years ago.
