Saw most of episode 1. Not sure what I think yet. I'll watch a couple more for sure. So far I like the general plot, but the first episode has the feel of trying to introduce too many characters. To speed up the introductions and to help us understand more quickly how we should feel about people, Kevin Spacey's character speaks directly to he audience in asides. At this point, I don't like that. It feels lazy and sets a weird tone for the show. Imagine Homeland with Brody turning to the camera and commenting about people while walking through a party or waiting for someone to enter his office and you've got episode 1 of House of Cards. Robin Wright-Penn's character seemed unrealistically hard. May end up being a great character, but I'm not buying it yet. Probably just need to get to know her better.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostLet me know how it is. I want to watch but am not sure if it will be wife appropriate.
As far as being wife approved it's mildly gratuitous, along the lines of an HBO/Showtime drama when first trying to gain an audience.

Wow the entire season is up. Didn't know they were doing that. Just burned through the first two and I digging it.Originally posted by Surfah View PostLove House of Cards so far. Usually breaking the fourth wall is annoying but I like it here. Spacey seems to be perfectly cast."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Yeah, that's the beauty of Netflix's model. I'm at a point where I only really watch tv that way, one show at a time, one or two episodes a night. I hate waiting a week between episodes, and I find I forget a lot of smaller details over the course of a longer season. Can't wait to start House of Cards.Originally posted by Surfah View PostWow the entire season is up. Didn't know they were doing that. Yeah I predict we'll finish House of Cards in a few days. I hope the rest of the season is as solid as the first two David Fincher directed episodes.Originally posted by falafel View PostYeah, that's the beauty of Netflix's model. I thought them ultimately finding the kid was to demonstrate that when Underwood wants something done it gets done.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostDid anyone else think it was funny that they had to show that the police tracked down the "canine hit and run" at the end of episode 1? I'm sure they have all kinds of time for that.
Spoiler for Mild Spoilers:Now I am only through episode 3 but I think the whole Mrs. Underwood graveyard thing is interesting. Is it supposed to be a comment on her developing conscience? I thought so until they showed the kids making out there. What does that tell us? That what to one person is sacred to another is not? I don't know. It seems clear it symbolizes something for her.

I made the mistake of watching episode 1 of House of Cards, which turned into E2, E3 and E4. What a great show. Even though I don't always like the characters, I find them so interesting. I like his wife Claire, and the young journalist, and her editor at the Herald, and the bright young girl from Stanford who Claire woos into working for her Clean Water NGO. I like Russo, even though I constantly wonder how the heck he got elected since he acts like an overgrown frat boy. I loved the peachoid episode.
Spoiler for The "C" word:I thought it very interesting in E4 when the owner of the Herald Tribune uses the "C" word (I hate that word) with impunity to her Editor (who is a male). Then he in turn uses it with his employee, and it turns out so so bad for him.
