haha. I guess not. The doc is about these people leaving porn and transitioning into real life. One became a Christian activist, artist, nurse, bounty hunter, and all these other random things, and it was kind of interesting. But for some of the actors it would show scenes from earlier in their careers. It was a little much.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostSo the porn didn't endSo Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

We just started using Amazon Prime for movies. Those who already use it: what do you wish you had known when you first started? Any tips or really cool features I should know about?“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

I watched that movie After Porn that MG is talking about. There was not much porn after the first 20 minutes of the movie. After the introductory packages of the various retired porn stars (old clips etc), there was mostly just interviews with the retirees. I fast forwarded though the porn scenes during the first 20 minutes, and after that it got compelling. These people, supposedly at the top of the adult film industry, were seriously scarred by their lives in porn. Some were defiantly unrepentant, some were sad to see their children hurt by the choices they made.
All of the women had a ton of plastic surgery (all kinds not just boobs) and a really hard look about them. I'm not gonna say rode hard and put away wet, but close. All the men seemed doughy and soft. Although the film doesn't focus on drug use, there was probably a lot of that as well. No one seemed to have any money saved up, I guess porn doesn't pay that well, even for its superstars. Some poignant moments:
1. The porn star who retired to Utah because "in Utah porn is illegal so no one will recognize me here." And she was able to live in relative anonymity. She looks like a normal housewife, perhaps because she gained 40 lbs after her career ended.
2. The guy who discussed discovering Jenna Jamison, along with her "beautiful, all-natural breasts." Okay, this has to be ironic. What say ye irony judges?
3. The porn star who is now a born again christian. She talks about how when she got out, she didn't want to take anything from that life with her. She walked away from royalties, everything. She had nothing. This woman seems seriously messed up.

First Position
A marvelous documentary on young dancers competing in the Youth America Grand Prix, one of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world. The movie follows several dancers as they compete. My favorite is the first dancer you meet, Aran. He's a typical 12 year old except for his exceptional athleticism; the camera films him jump roping on his bogo stick, riding his unicycle, and skate boarding all over the place. And then you see him dance and it takes your breath away. Most of the dancers come from families with wealth; ballet is so expensive. An adopted haitian girl shows us her ballet pointe shoes that cost $80 and that she thrashes in a day or two. You meet a super ambitious ballet mom who starves her daughter so her daughter can stay thin. But nothing touches the ambitions of the kids themselves; they slave away hour after hour and sacrifice friends and fun for their dance.
This movie is really good, especially for people like me who watch So You Think You can Dance at least once or twice a season.

She wants to be an actress.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostSorry, I edited that part out. But she does look similar to your ethnic type. I wasn't suggesting she is related to you. She's from New Jersey.

Maybe we should have finished the doc. We were expecting what you mentioned -- just interviews of these people as they transitioned into real life. When they started showing clips from their careers we just figured that would continue through the rest of the docOriginally posted by Katy Lied View PostI watched that movie After Porn that MG is talking about. Utah is up there is per-capita paid porn consumption. For the record, I don't think Surfah looks like a fat porn lady.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostI watched that movie After Porn that MG is talking about. I thought I looked like a young Robert Anae. I much prefer that, especially the one that modeled for the Duke statue.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostSorry, I edited that part out.
