It's already been ordered, I think before it was even released.

Also, if I read PAC's comment correctly, the second season may already be done!

      • My two year old knows how to navigate the iPad and my wife's phone and also knows how to access Netflix. The crap she turns on is hilarious. Right now she's watching She-Ra.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

        • I really like the show but man there are some things that really bother me. Pretty much the same gripes as YOhio.

          Spoiler for Gripes:
The show needs a hero. A redemptive figure. I really wanted Peter Russo to be that. I was so disappointed when he fell off the wagon and then his death. The last phone call with his daughter was terribly sad. Now that he is gone, I feel that the show is just too cynical. And maybe that is the point, that there is nothing redemptive in Washington and that it corrupts everyone. But it's just too much for me to swallow whole.

About the murder, I was so disappointed in that. Probably more disappointed with Frank going that route than Peter succumbing to his vices. It was done sloppily in my opinion. Like YOhio noted, that parking garage would have a video everywhere. But it just didn't jibe with Frank being the master manipulator. Though it did make me think back to the dog that was hit that Frank put down. Maybe that is what they were going for. Still it seemed like the kind of solution a lazy writer would come up with or one expecting this to be a one and done season.

The VP to run for gov is a stretch. Not sure how I feel about that.

I do find Stamper to be the most intriguing character. I think the great conflict will arise when he finally defies Frank.

Nice thoughts. Good catch about the dog.

All good points. TV has increasingly been on an antihero kick since Dexter first emerged (for my money, Walter White is king). We're getting to the point where in a few years it'll be refreshing to have a lead with more redeeming qualities than damnable ones.

I think we can probably trace it back to Tony Soprano. One of the reasons I love Justified is that, even though he can be a bastard from time to time, Raylan Givens is always the GOOD guy, and that's refreshing. (And they throw in Boyd Crowder to satisfy any antihero jones the audience may have.)
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Excellent observation. And with both Tony Soprano and Walter White (esp. Walter), the audience was appropriately punished for rooting for an evil person. The jury is out on Dexter Morgan, but if he doesn't meet some kind of grisly death or full reckoning in the final season next year, I will be seriously pissed.

                    • Spoiler for More HOC Gripes:
I really don't like the way the journalist story is arcing. The scene where the three are trying to piece together what is going on and then they basically piece it all together made me roll my eyes. It just added to the over the top cynicism of the show.

Zoe is particularly annoying. I really like her character less and less. Maybe it's another heavy handed take on Washington and the MSM. I also find things a bit uneven with the journalists. For example, Christina is able to detach herself completely from Russo's death to pitch Capra on running for his seat. Then the bitchy journalist shows up to dig until Stamper chases her away. But then when Zoe shows up Christina wants to talk? If a journalist barged into that office security would have hauled her off. Especially when she starts off first thing about Russo.

Speaking of Capra, I enjoy the parallels to real life in HOC like YOhio noted. But this seemed too much. Does the story need Joe the Plumber now? It's just too much.

Also, I don't understand the whole Claire wanting a baby thing. That's just a weird storyline to introduce. And her doctor saying it is possible for a woman who smokes, has had 3 miscarriages and is going through menopause? Well sure anything is possible I suppose, but I really hope this goes nowhere fast. Gidget remarked during the last episode, I hope they don't have kids because they'd be the worst parents ever.

I still really like the show, mostly because I really like Spacey as an actor. But the story just seems to be too tight and concise at times. When I think back to the Peachoid episode which was great (maybe the best for me) it really doesn't compare to the episodes towards the end. It's as though the writers received notice that the show may only be one season so they rushed everything. From Zoe's turn on Frank (really the bitchy reporter can get her to turn on her only source) to Russo's rise and fall. Then they get a second season and are like well shit. Let's make Frank VP. I guess the pace is uneven and moved too fast for me. Usually I complain about filler episodes and the story not moving in series but I think HOC could use some more Peachoids. I feel like the Underwood Library episode tried to slow things down again but it just came off weird. What was with that whole Brokeback moment? I thought Frank and his buddy from the Riflemen were going to do it.

I enjoyed it overall and will watch season 2.

                        Spoiler for A few complaints:
I couldn't buy that an newly elected democratic president would in the first hundred days piss off the teacher unions to the point where they go on strike for a month. Meanwhile, all Frank has to do is tell the president to give him more time in the midst of the strike

Also are there no other master politicians? All the guys Underwood goes after seem like political dunces. For example the Majority Leader doesn't tell the Speaker about Frank's plot until it is already done?

I also don't get Claire's motivations for stabbing Frank in the back. It seems as a couple their whole goal in accumulation of power. Why choose the CWI over a more direct path to power?

As much as I love Dexter/Walt/Don Draper, I also love Leslie Knope. She is all redeeming qualities.

Of course, Parks & Rec is a completely different thing from the aforementioned, but nonetheless.

Now I am only through episode 3 but I think the whole Mrs. Underwood graveyard thing is interesting. Is it supposed to be a comment on her developing conscience? I thought so until they showed the kids making out there. What does that tell us? That what to one person is sacred to another is not? I don't know. It seems clear it symbolizes something for her.

In hindsight I think that was the starting point of her desire to have kids. There were all these little weird sequences with her throughout the series that didn't add up until the end. Looking back, I think the graveyard scene was simply a question of her own mortality juxtaposed against the vitality of youth. She saw something in the kids that she wanted to continue by having children of her own.
