  • Took the boys to see Green Hornet tonight. As we left Captain said "That movie had so much violence in it" HFN Jr said "I know it was awesome". It felt more average to me.

as good as giamatti is, he was so damn annoying (which was obviously by design) in sideways that i can't look at or listen to him without being annoyed.

He was awesome in Sideways. Pathetically awesome.

        • Their cell phones are gray and big as shoes, they smoke indoors, Ronald Reagan is on TV, no PCs or laptops or blackberrys or i-whatervers, but American Psycho still seems timely. The satire still has the same sharp bite, it's still very funny. A truly great film. Maybe it was beyond timely; prophetic.

          • Wow. Just saw Dogtooth. Wow. I was advised to go in knowing as little as possible, which is what I'd advise others as well. Has anyone else seen this one? I'd love to hear other people's thoughts. It's up for an Oscar this year and is available on Netflix instant. Anyone?
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Sweet. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. May it be as fruitful as the Antichrist discussion.

                  No, seriously.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I took your advice about not knowing anything going in. Thanks a lot--I invited my 21 year old neice to watch it with me. Sheesh.

Just kidding about the neice but it is definately not suitable for mixed company. The only thing that saves some of the scenes from being outright porn is that there is absolutely zero erotic content.

                    Spoiler for note:
Several critics have commented on the fact that no one in the family has a name. But I thought I heard the daughters calling their brother Martin.

I took my daughter to it last night, but I didn't go in the theater.

                      • Saw The Eagle.

50% King Arthur, 20% Gladiator, and 30% Conan the Barbarian.

Really liked the two lead actors. Unknowns.

[edit] Okay, looked up Jamie Bell, whose performance I liked best in the entire movie. Seems like he's done a few others: Billy Elliott, King Kong, Flags of Our Fathers, Jumper, Nicholas Nickleby, and the upcoming Jane Eyre.

Yep, your comments about the sex scenes echo what my wife and I felt as well. Good lord that is a strange movie, but I also found it frequently hilarious and in the end pretty powerful.

                            • I watched Dogtooth on Netflix and I wish I had been warned about the sex scenes.

The movie was disturbing and not in a good way. The movie was original -- but there will be a lot of people who will really not like this movie.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                              • BTW, I watched the Godfather movies (well at least I and II) and I was wondering what the hell ever happened to Francis Ford Coppola. He made the two Godfather movies, The Conversation and Apocalypse Now -- three of which are some of the absolute best movies ever, arguably all top 20 -- and then the 80s hits and the only movie of note to come out is the Outsiders (yeah, I know Godfather Part III came out in 1990, Tucker and Peggy Sue Got Married are decent, but still).
