The Damned United. Not really my cup of tea, but I'm willing to bet $100 that Boylen Over would love this movie.

I loved it too. Very pleasantly surprised.Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostFantastic Mr. Fox. Fantastic."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Ha! I had never heard it before, but you'd be $100 richer if the synopsis is any indication.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostThe Damned United. I'm glad I gave "Synecdoche, New York" another chance. Fascinating. Actors playing actors playing actors, on a set within a set within a set, receiving direction from a director who's receiving direction from a director.
A very challenging film, and I'm not sure how to interpret a lot of what happened, but it's tremendous."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

"The Visitor"
A nice story about an unhappy and directionless Connecticut man who finds two illegal immigrants staying in his rarely-occupied New York. They become friends, and he takes the steps to be happy.
"Amores Perros"
Pretty jarring. Very well-told, and interesting to see how people relate to the dogs sometimes better than each other."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

We liked the Visitor, though, the ending was sad (IIRC)Originally posted by BoylenOver View Post"The Visitor"

"Amores Perros"
Pretty jarring. Very well-told, and interesting to see how people relate to the dogs sometimes better than each other. What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

But obviously, the biggest reason he does it is to honor and mourn his friend."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Finally watched The Thin Blue Line, Errol Morris' documentary that was pretty high on my "embarrassing omissions" list. I love Morris' Fog of War and Mr. Death so I can't believe I waited this long to see what's probably his most famous film.
Great documentary by one of the great documentary filmmakers. For those not familiar with the film, it tells the story of the murder of a police officer in Texas in the 1970s. Randall Adams was arrested and put on death row despite the circumstantial/shaky evidence that he actually committed the crime. Fascinating stuff.Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...
None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.
I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

"I've Loved You So Long"
Kristen Scott Thomas is marvelous. Seeing her deal with a return to normal life, repairing the relationship with her sister, and dealing with what she's done, it's enveloping."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

The people I personally know who are enthralled with this movie rave about the piss-poor partial atonement of the book (and really, this atonement was a device to assuage feelings of guilt--it certainly didn't help its targets), yet snicker at the full and unselfish redemption of Christ's atonement.Originally posted by BoylenOver View Post"Atonement"

(Oh wow, I seemed to have sucked all the air out of the room. It was fairly well done and certainly well acted, but I still think people who rave about this movie are ignoring the 5000 lb elephant in the room.)
