  • Watched Double Jeopardy and it was awful.

We were on Whidbey Island a couple weekends ago and I found out three movies have been shot there. So of course I have to see them. This was one, and while it was awful, it had some great shots of the area.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

That's a good point. That lack of recognizability means they don't carry all of the baggage that some of the established Hollywood starts do. With some of the guys we see all the time, it gets hard to distinguish the actor's public persona from the role.

And yes, it was a pretty great film. Lots of nice GODFATHER touches like
      Spoiler for good scene:
the almost unbearable tension leading up to his first kill in the prison. The way the camera focused on Malik's face while his soon-to-be victim talked and talked was very reminiscent of Michael Corleone in the restaurant about to cap Solazzo and McCluskey.
      Very nicely done.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

      • Don't know if it's been discussed yet or not, but we watched Bandslam last night and liked it. Definitely not another High School Musical...much better even with some Disney actors.

Good music in the film as well...everything from Peter Bjorn to Wilco to Velvet Underground to even a little Chuck Mangione. Some good acting performances especially by the lead male and also by Lisa Kudrow.

I wouldn't say I loved it, but we definitely had fun watching it. An added bonus is that the whole family can watch it.

Like Whip It I'd put this one into the category of "way better than it should have been."

        • Just got back from Date Night. It was much better than I expected. Belly laugh funny at some points and overall well done.

            • Watched Practical Magic continuing on with my Whidbey Island movies. Pretty bad, but probably not as bad as Double Jeopardy.

              • Good Hair, the Chris Rock documentary about black hair and the industry that has evolved around making black hair "normal."

pretty interesting, especially the amount of money that is spent. I thought the "Hair Royale" competition was humerous

That was pretty interesting. Some wild characters in that a hair competition.

                    • "The Room", starring Tommy Wiseau.

Not sure who recommended it to me, but it's the worst thing I've seen in a long time. I turned it off after ten minutes. It was like watching a porno without the good stuff.

Ah, but are you aware that basically the only reason THE ROOM is famous is because of how bad it is? There are traveling road show screenings of the movie that feature an almost ROCK HORROR level of audience participation and devotion.

                        • The Postman

I expected it to be completely awful. It was okay. The ending was predictable but overall it was a lot better than I thought it would be.

I'm not on-board with the concept of ironic enjoyment. I like the things that I like because I think they are good.

Obviously this isn't directed at you, just bullshit like this.

Yes. I suppose my views on this particular topic can be attributed to him (even though it's been a solid two years since I've read his books), but they're more tied to the concept of New Sincerity.
