Cyrus is super hiliarious mainstream (in the vein of Superbad-- and stars Jonah Hill, btw) and will come out in theatres. I highly recommend it.
Yeah, read about it in EW. I'll check that one out when it releases.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

    • "The Wrestler": great film. So many different things going on within the film. Mickey Rourke was really good.

        • We watched an interesting Western last night called SERAPHIM FALLS with Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson. It was essentially a long chase movie, with Neeson as the cold, unstoppable pursuer and Brosnan as the quarry who's racing the across the post-Civil War West. The two performances were great and there were a number of notable "Hey I recognize that guy!" character actors in supporting roles. The whole thing was shot in New Mexico and parts of Oregon so the scenery was just stunning.

I would unreservedly recommend the film were it not for some weird turns the thing takes in the third act. We go from a straight chase picture to some weird allegorical stuff that seems way out of place. Still an interesting film though.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

          • I took my daughter to see the Oscar-nominated Animated Shorts program that is playing this week at the Tower Theater. I'm hoping to catch the Live Action Shorts program that's playing concurrently but I don't know if I have time this week. It's always fun to catch these because they are inevitably the category at the Oscars where everyone goes "I haven't heard of any of these."

This year's nominee group includes the newest WALLACE & GROMIT cartoon which is why my 4 year-old wanted to go. They supplemented the 5 nominees with a few other quality shorts from the past couple years. My personal fave was one called THE LADY AND THE REAPER which featured the Grim Reaper attempting to take an old lady to the afterlife, only to be repeatedly foiled by a cocky doctor who keeps reviving her in the hospital. Funny stuff.

If anyone's interested, it's playing until Thursday and the whole thing is kid-friendly (with the exception of the final short LOGORAMA, which is helpfully preceded by a disclaimer so you can take off with the kiddies before it comes on.)

            • Watched Jennifer's Body the other night.

I didn't think anything could make Megan Fox difficult to look at, but apparently her acting can.

I also really liked Woody Harrelson in this movie. He was perfect. This is probably the only zombie movie I'd own. A little courser than Sean of the Dead, but very watchable.
Just watched Zombieland as well. Really liked it. I was a fan of Shaun of the Dead and have seen it 3 times, but I think I liked Zombieland even better. Some good characters in there, and any movie involving Bill Murray the way this one did deserves to be lauded.

I had a similar experience watching Transformers 2 the other night (despite all the warnings to the contrary, I watched it anyway). A truly horrible movie. One of my favorite parts was at the end, during the 45 minute battle sequence near the pyramids in Egypt. After running through piles and piles of sand, escaping collapsing shack after collapsing shack and otherwise getting involved in very dusty/dirty situations, her hair, make up, and WHITE jeans were just as pristine as when she put them on.

                    • This weekend my wife and I saw SHUTTER ISLAND, which we both enjoyed quite a bit. And then on Saturday a friend brought over THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY. It was a pretty fascinating film. Anybody else seen that one?

Yes, Mathieu Amalric. He was very good in MUNICH too. Actually there were a lot of familiar faces in the movie, more than I thought I'd see in a foreign film. Jean-Do's primary therapist was in an excellent film called TELL NO ONE that came out a couple years ago.

As for this movie, I loved the visuals and how engaging they could make scenes that were essentially from the POV of a paralyzed man. Great use of color too, especially when the film would delve into the world as Jean-Do imagined it in his mind.

                          • I watched "The Surrogates" on Saturday night. A very interesting idea which I don't think was able to be fully fleshed-out in 90 minutes. I'm guessing it's based on a book, which is likely much better than the movie ended up being. The movie was good enough to keep me awake, although only barely. Also, Bruce Willis kinda bugs.

                            • Just finished Zombieland.

Got a big kick out of it...good fun.

And Emma Stone seems to be on that Mila Kunis track of getting progressively hotter with each film.

                              • I took my daughter to an advance screening of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON on Thursday. It was pretty fun animated flick and was mercifully devoid of lame pop-culture gags. Not much more to say about it other than my 4 year old had a great time until her filthy hands eventually smeared enough chocolate and popcorn residue on her 3-D glasses that she could no longer see out of them.

"Dad this movie is too dark!"

"What are you talking about? Let me see those glasses. Whoa!"
