The "last movie I saw" thread

For my Friday afternoon movie this week, we saw Wolfman. I liked it. Keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire movie. Not for the weak stomach. Lots of wolfman violence.

Definitely beats out all of the other movies I've seen this year. Here's my ranking:

1 - Wolfman
2 - Edge of Darkness
3 - Teenage Revolt
4 - Book of Eli
5 - From Paris With Love

Edge of Darkness is significantly better than the three movies below. Also, From Paris is significantly worse than Book of Eli.

We saw An Education last night and mildly enjoyed it. Midway through the movie, I thought it was awful because of the older guy having a relationship with a 16 year-old, but a twist or two helped as the film resolved. Carey Mulligan deserves her Oscar nomination. She looks a lot like Katie Holmes and is a superior actress. This movie has limited appeal, and I wouldn't encourage the masses to see it. Last night (Friday primetime), our theater had six in attendance).

I thought AN EDUCATION was great. Fantastic screenplay and I really liked all of the supporting actors as well: Olivia Williams and Alfred Molina were especially good.

It's one of those movies I'm going to think about for awhile, unlike many that I quickly forget. I agree about the supporting actors, including Peter Sarsgaard. The movie struck close to home as I've seen parents very much like Jenny's, and I hope not to be like them.

Who the #$&% Is Jackson Pollock?


Fun documentary on a real life Antique Roadshow situation. This old lady believes she has an authentic Jackson Pollock, but the art connoisseurs tell her she doesn't. She has forensic evidence to say it is, but she really needs it certified authentic. I enjoyed the story and it isn't much longer than an episode of antique roadshow.

Just saw Valentine's Day. And I hate to admit this, but it was better than I thought it was going to be. I was expecting When In Rome level bad.

This movie looks like He's Just Not That Into You which was one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

I also read that Julia Roberts got paid 3mm to do this movie and she has 6 total minutes of screen time.

Saw "No Country For Old Men" last night. I had recorded it on USA a couple weeks ago. I liked it, but I feel that I missed a few scenes due to editing. Quite a few times, I said to myself "what in the world is going on, did I miss something?". I guess that's what I get for watching it edited.

Such a great movie.

I finally watched The Hurt Locker last night, finishing out the the trifecta of what seem to be considered the strongest films this year (The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, Up In the Air), and I started thinking about how none of the those movies comes close to touching No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood. Those movies had me completely engrossed in their symbolism and meaning, where I thought the three mentioned above were just very good movies.

Can't believe those two went head-to-head for best picture. Either would have trounced in that category just about any other year.

"Once". Great soundtrack, and I was engrossed in the two main characters. It's very tender.

'Once' is one of those movies that proves you don't need lots of money, special effects, expensive actors (or even trained ones), nice cameras, etc etc to tell a good story. Very good movie.
