"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Doctor Strange-- Loved it. A little weird that he's in the Marvel universe, but none of that is really too relevant to the actual film. It's like a mix of the Matrix, Inception, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Superman IV."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! The Accountant. Spoilerish review ahead. Really enjoyed the first half of it. Like really, really enjoyed. The last half, not so much. It was a little bit Usual Suspects with fun and intentionally unrealistic plot angles and twists. But then too much realism of a Jason Bourne style thriller to offset that style and confuse you as to what they were trying to do. And then also it was part shitty Marvel comic book hero kind of thing. It had great promise but ultimately failed. Too much going on. Still entertaining, though.

Jack Reacher II: Like Moliere says, a definite disappointment after Jack Reacher I. It was I without all the funny parts.
Dr. Strange: Okay, interesting. What was probably trippy and mind bending when the comic first came out was a little tired in 2016. (Brilliant western doctor discovers there's power in alternative medicine)
Hacksaw Ridge: This movie felt like a throwback to war cinema prior to youtube. Huge screen and lyrical and big budget booms. Like, as others have compared, Saving Private Ryan. It's nice to see one more time, because how much longer we're going to have these beautiful guts-and-glory movies is anyone's guess. You have youtube style, very economical, and Clint Eastwood, who's probably somewhere in between. Other than Andrew Garfield and Vince Vaughn, all the other characters were played by Australian actors. Wonder why-- maybe Gibson fled to the land of Oz after he became a pariah in Hollywood?
Some say that Vaughn is miscast, but I loved his characterization. Garfield I've loved since the Social Network.

Superman IV was terrific, so Dr. Strange lives up to that standard?Originally posted by Commando View PostDoctor Strange-- Loved it. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

It's been three weeks since I watched it, but I really like it start to finish. Maybe one of the best action movies I've seen in recent years.Originally posted by jay santos View PostThe Accountant. I liked Dr. Strange. We saw it in 3D which I would recommend. I like fantasy so I really enjoyed all the supernatural representations. And it had just enough comical scenes to counteract the heaviness of the Eastern philosophy angles. However, I wasn't a huge fan of Comberbatch in this, even though he did a respectable job. I just don't see him as 'campy' enough to do a Marvel flick."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Just watched this on Netflix. It packs a punch, especially in light of Tuesday's election result.Originally posted by Armenag View PostLook Who's Back - Film version of the German novel in which Hitler inexplicably returns to modern Berlin. Definitely a case where the book is better. The movie goes a bit too broad and meta and lacks the comedic punch of the book. It wasn't bad, but not great. Did have a funny nod to Downfall's infamous angry Hitler scene. You're actually pretty funny when you aren't being a complete a-hole....so basically like 5% of the time. --Art Vandelay

Arrival- Kind of a cool show about meeting aliens, which really turns out to be a movie about the mootness and futility of your human experience.
