  • I liked Ex Machina. The acting was solid as has been said before. Especially Oscar Isaac (Nathan). He plays the part to perfection. I think I would have liked a little more attention paid to the sessions with Ava. I felt that those were rushed, and the director spent more time with the relationship between Nathan and Caleb. Theirs was interesting, but Ava's and Caleb's could have been much more detailed, like more dialogue that would have led us to contemplate the questions Nathan was asking Caleb. Not that this wasn't attempted, it was. I guess I just wish there would have been more focus on the sessions.

And yes, the robots were certainly attractive. Mrs. NWC thought it a shame that the movie totally could have been PG-13 were it not for the gratuitous (but non-sexual) nudity. She has a point, though I think I would prefer the 'R' version...

Is it a philosophical work, along the lines of I, Robot, or a take from Asimoff?
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

        • I liked ex machina, I've been waiting to watch it since January. I listened to a podcast on AI and the subject of the podcast loved the movie. The dance scene was creepily hilarious.

Mad Max was fun. My heart beat was elevated the entire time and I felt like I needed a huge breath of air after the credits.

          Pitch Perfect on Tuesday!

          • Thought Ex Machina was good. As far as recent lower-budget sci-fi head scratchers go, I think I preferred Coherence (despite Ex Machina's superior actors and cinematography), but I enjoyed Ex Machina. Both leads were excellent. As said above, it would have been nice to spend more time on the sessions. Gleeson clearly inherited some of his father's ability.

Fury Road - Most fun movie I've seen in a good while. Just the right blend of kookiness and over-the-top action. Ex Machina could have been a book; Fury Road is the kind of thing movies are meant for. Charlize Theron was great. I will be in line for the sequel. First action movie I've seen in a long while that I'd like to see again.

The one stark is driving has the v-10 (the badge is clearly visible in one of the scenes) And so it has 550hp.

When I saw this post originally assumed this was just your usual judgmental and opinionated self.

Then I saw the movie. Now j think you were being too kind. It was horrible.

And cardiac, they joke about hiding the zucchini, not the cucumber.

Good point. A distinction without much difference.

Jeez. You have been pretty harsh on movies lately. Maybe you should take a break and wait for the more artsy movies in the fall.

                        • Saw Tomorrowland yesterday. Well, I saw part of it. I fell asleep in the middle, but I didn't miss much. At least I saw the Star Wars trailer on the big screen, which was enjoyable. Despite all of the movies I've seen at my wife's insistence, she leaned over to me and said, "I'm not going to see that with you."
                          Not that, sickos.

Avengers was terrible and incredibly boring. You are dead wrong about Mad Max.

Meh. Lot of hype. Visually fun to watch but the story was lacking. I stand by my earlier review. Where do you disagree? What was great about it?

                              • I'm going to try to make sense of Mad Max. Why did Joe check to see if his unborn child was "perfect in every way?" Seems like Joe has a ton of war boys, and most of them seem pretty normal, especially the younger ones. Also, why are perfectly normal boys so hard to breed, but normal women are easier to find? Joe had 5 wives that were all normal.
