We rented "3 Days to Kill" with Kevin Costner last night. It was terrible. I wonder if experienced actors like Costner can tell they are in the middle of a train wreck while the movie is being filmed.Last edited by RC Vikings; 06-18-2014, 02:08 PM.

Robin Hood (Russel Crowe version) - Not really very good at all. Incredibly stereotypical and sometimes outright cheesy. It was also 2.5 hours long. If it had been 1.5 hours long then maybe I'd have liked it more.
Anchorman 2 - Apart from some really funny one liners, this one was all over the place. It was funny to watch and had some fun anecdotal insights into how the news turned into what we know as the news today, but overall it wasn't very good in terms of a movie.
The Lego Movie - Great movie. Everything was awesome. All of my kids love legos so we all could really appreciate the turns the story took. MJ used to be a stickler for my oldest son to keep the building instructions for everything so she got some teasing afterwards from the kids.
Next up is the Grand Budapest Hotel

I thought Anchorman 2 was terrible. I couldn't bring myself to finish it, and I was on a 10-hour flight.Originally posted by Moliere View PostAnchorman 2 - Apart from some really funny one liners, this one was all over the place. I also found it terribly boring, but Luc Besson was so old school action in this flick. Every. single. cliche. from. action. movies. of the. 1990s. It was kind of fun to catalog them: Hot young female driving fast car, check. Ex-wife who he just drifted away from, but there's nothing really wrong with this marriage, check. Albino bad guy, check. Obnoxious teen aged girl who dresses provocatively and sneaks out at night, check. Protective dad who gets all medieval on some young punks sniffing around his daughter, check. Hero out of ammo so he rolls over to dead guy, removes ammo clip from dead guy's belt and it fits, check. Dad teaching daughter to ride a bike, check. Nerdy sidekick, check. Bombs bombs bombs, check. The only thing different was the west african family who squats in his apartment, and that was just surreal.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostWe rented "3 Days to Kill" with Kevin Costner last night. We saw this today at Thanksgiving Point. I waited to read the other comments and spoilers in this thread but have since done so. In short, this was the most fun I've had at a movie this year. Great pacing, lots of humor, good characters, and (for me at least) a coherent story line and a satisfactory conclusion. The ending didn't bother me in the slightest. It's pretty much impossible to make a time travel movie that doesn't contain irreconcilable paradoxes or strain credulity, so I just go with it. I loved Groundhog Day and this was a fine variant of that theme.Originally posted by Lost Student View PostI saw Edge of Tomorrow last night. I saw plain old non-3D, non-IMAX.
I hadn't seen any previews or read anything about it beforehand, so I had no expectations. I was entertained. 4/5 stars.
And this is the first time a tossed salad has been included as part of my movie munchies. We had an entire lunch (sandwich, salad, popcorn, candy and soda) served up in a large plastic tray, thereby obliterating the calorie deficit we had generated over the previous five days. A fine outing for this gourmand/cinephile.

There's a fine line between nonsensical funny and nonsensical stupid and Anchorman 2 wasn't very close to that line.Originally posted by thesaint258 View PostI thought Anchorman 2 was terrible. We redboxed that one and it was so stupid we couldn't even stay up past 45 minutes. It was lame. Snooze city.Originally posted by Moliere View PostThere's a fine line between nonsensical funny and nonsensical stupid and Anchorman 2 wasn't very close to that line.
We did watch an indie film called "about Time" with Rachel McAdams. We really liked it.Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

I agree. Solid B. It was fun asking the kids what they they thought of the ending, and their interpretation of why it ended the way it did. We got some good answers.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostWe saw this today at Thanksgiving Point. I waited to read the other comments and spoilers in this thread but have since done so. Tom Cruise is indestructible. The guy won't die. He's money with either action or sci fi flicks."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Agree. But despite his indestructibality, Tommy will always be Joel Goodsen from Risky Business in my book: "Time of your life, huh kid?".Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostTom Cruise is indestructible. Grand Budapest Hotel. Loved it. Yes, Wes Anderson uses the same basic style for each of his movies, but I still enjoy it.
In fact, I am on a Wes Anderson binge. Watched Life Aquatic for the first time (very fun - I remember watching Jacques Cousteau as a kid on TV). Re-watched The Fantastic Mr. Fox (maybe my favorite Wes Anderson movie). Re-watched Rushmore. Currently re-watching The Royal Tenenbaums."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
