Okay, now you've coaxed me into talking about it. It was OK. It seemed somewhat like a PSA for the CDC - "It might seem like we're overly reactionary, but just you wait until we're right about our dire predictions of contagious catastrophe. Oh, and wash your hands frequently."

Too many storylines without enough backstory for each. Preachy I can deal with (see Elysium), but the screenplay was simply too busy.

      • We tried to see Fruitvale Station but ended up having to see The Way Way Back instead. Good show -- liked this song in it:

          • At suggestion of someone in this thread, wife and I watched the three Before films (sunrise, sunset, etc). Meh. Enjoyed the first one, but then each one less and less until I feel like I almost want to poke my eyes out then sit through more conversation where these two try to out wit each other.

Exactly my thoughts as well. I love good dialogue, but the dialogue between these two was just grating. I just wanted them to shut up.

So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Saw it Friday. Unlike you I was bored. It just wasn't very good IMO.

We got to see Fruitvale Station the next night though.

I agree with you. Overrated and heavy handed. I liked the Way Way Back better.

                      • The Spectacular Now

So this was another coming-of-age tale that got big buzz at Sundance along with The Way Way Back. It's different from that movie, but very good as well. It plays the drama angle stronger than Way Back, which pushes the comedy harder, but I think it avoided the conventions of this type of film a bit better than Way Back. For example, both kids are estranged from their fathers, but Way Back played that conflict in a way that seems more in line with typical movie tropes, where Spectacular felt a little more, I don't know, real?

Anyway, I really liked them both for different reasons.

No. Your review dissuaded me. But in what felt like mr. Zzyyxx day in my life, my wife insisted on wolverine after I suggested blue jasmine. She regretted it mightily.

                          • "We're the Millers" was good for a few laughs. It seems like it's been years since I've seen a really funny film, do they make them anymore?

I hope more people see this one. I was not looking forward to it but ended up really liking it.

The Broadway Theaters here in Salt Lake are doing a month-long Hitchcock retrospective so I went and checked out Rear Window last week. I know I've seen it before but it has been so long that much of the movie seemed brand new. What a great movie. Really the only weakness is that every male character in the movie is not reduced to total drooling incompetence in Grace Kelly's presence.

Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

I thought it was seriously crappy.
