Two of those are probably the two greatest final quotes in television history. Two opposite sides of the coin - the utter resignation and acceptance of Ehrmentrout, versus the ballsy defiance of Hank.

I hope Vince Gilligan finds another project soon.

I've gone back and listened to the very first insider's podcast and, while Vince Gilligan does great work and he had a great team, I'm learning that the excellence they achieved isn't so much the work of some da vinci there cooped up in the writing room, but more of a direct result of just a lot of hard work. They sit and brainstorm and throw thousands of ideas against the wall, vet dialogue, plot turns, and acts until only the the best stuff remains- and even then they still have to pare it down (they mentioned a scene I would have LOVED that never developed of Walt, after disappearing, cooking peanut brittle in his kitchen, using the same precision and exactness he used in cooking meth-- showing that he misses cooking). Gilligan attributes the great ending to the extra bit of time they were given by AMC to figure it out and produce it (the second half). You see a lot of times when the network needs product and the deadlines make the product suffer. Too bad the folks at Showtime couldn't sit, breathe, and figure out just a good plot for the last act of Dexter-- it's such a waste.

I watched my first episode of BB last Weds (the 25th) and finished the series last night. All 5 seasons in 7 days has taken a toll on my sleep and it will be nice to get to bed at a descent hour tonight. This has been some of the best tv I have ever watched. I am glad I did not have to wait a week between episodes.

Awesome. My wife started on Thursday and three episodes into Season 5 last night. I told her that we need to watch the last 8 episodes together, which will really slow her down. Given that she's burned through more than 40 hours of tv in the last week, I've been tempted to point out the apparent massive amounts of free time she has in a given day. But the kids have all seen well taken care of when I get home from work, so more power to her.

Awesome. My wife started on Thursday and three episodes into Season 5 last night. I told her that we need to watch the last 8 episodes together, which will really slow her down. Given that she's burned through more than 40 hours of tv in the last week, I've been tempted to point out the apparent massive amounts of free time she has in a given day. But the kids have all seen well taken care of when I get home from work, so more power to her.

I was listening to this interview with BB writers Peter Gould and Thomas Schnauz on Fresh Air with Terry Gross earlier today. It's 45 minutes, but worth a listen. One thing that jumped out at me was their insistence that they wrote themselves into a corner many times. As if it was a fun challenge. They talk specifically about when Walt and Jesse were in the RV and Hank was trying to get in. They had no plan on how to get them out of there.

Another piece that jumped out was that the incorporation of Jonathan Banks as Mike was a result of Bob Odenkirk not being available to shoot the scene.
