    This is really cool:

But that's about all they knew. How Walt ended up in New Hampshire, why he ventured back to Albuquerque and what he planned to do with said weapon were all very much to be determined. The flash-forward was simply a way of "planting a flag" for the finale, Gilligan said.

How a dark show could have gotten just a little darker.

And Walt Jr. might have died too: It's been widely reported that Jesse was not originally supposed to survive beyond the first season of "Breaking Bad." But as Gilligan revealed, Walt Jr. might have been killed off, too. In the early days of the series, Gilligan proposed that Walt avenges Jesse's death by tying up his killer in the basement and methodically lopping off and cauterizing one of his limbs each day. Should the killer try to escape, he'd set off a trip wire hooked up to a gun targeted at his heart. Eventually, Walt Jr. would stumble on his father's torture chamber and come to the aid of the horribly maimed man, who, in turn, would set off the jury-rigged weapon. They'd both die in a hail of bullets.

      • MG's link led me to another semi-interesting link discussing what the BB actors did before the show.

        http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...breaking-b-008

        Two interesting bits:

        - Anna Gunn is actually from New Mexico.

        - The actress who plays Lydia is Scottish.

That's one thing I sort of feel would have improved the show a bit. You knew Anna, Walt Jr., Holly and Brock were off limits.

That sort of bugged me when I read it. That's how the show was being written? Seems very loose.

"Let's have Walt go to N.H. of all places and then come back and buy an M-60."

              "Okay. Why?"

"We can figure that out later, but whatever happens, I really want N.H. and an M-60 involved in some prominent way, so I'm going to put them in the first episode. That will force us to include them."

              "..."

The flash forward was a lot of fun. And they pulled it together very nicely.

Yeah not a big leap to think he'd finally call vacuum repair guy to get out of town and want to come back to take care of business.

Seems like a good thing that they rethought this. Walt turned pretty evil, but never Saw IV evil.

Nor did he ever care for Jesse enough to enact that level of revenge on someone.

I think they did stuff like this quite often. The writing team said they often enjoyed writing themselves into a corner and then figuring how to get out of it. That's basically what they did with the flash forward.

                        Don't eye roll me!

I'm not saying I didn't like the story line. I was just surprised to hear that they were so loose with the plot, especially with the highly anticipated final 8 episodes. Seems a bit arbitrary, and a possibly dangerous way of going about writing. What happens if they can't tie things together in a satisfying way?

One thing I complained about too much in the earlier seasons was that basically everyone on the "'good guy" side of the equation was more or less off limits (which culminated in me losing my shit about the season 2 finale). I think the show was always a little too forgiving that way.

With my wife burning through episodes for a week now, it's been fun to sort of revisit the big picture. It sort of surprised me about some of the details that seemed pretty important at the time, that I had simply forgotten about.

It's also gotten me thinking about how I would rank the seasons, and I think that Season 2 would likely come in second behind Season 5.

Ugh. Not after the cop-out ending.
