Loved that montage and the prison killings montage was pretty memorable, too.

I think he's lying. I think maybe he's getting out locally and going to focus on the Czech sales, so in that sense he is out, but I think he'll still be cooking. He set this deal up with Lydia and I think we're going to see more of her next season.

Also, anyone wonder what Todd's motivation is? I mean the whole, "I'll wait to take the money until I get it right," scene from the last episode didn't make sense to me. Why is he in this, if not to make piles of cash? Is he just kissing Walter's ass because he knows what he is capable of and doesn't want to be next? Of course, we've already seen what Todd is capable of. He seems a little too loyal to me.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

He hasn't been in it locally. All the stuff happening over that three month period and all that money came from the czech sales. And why would he lie to skyler about it? The show has established that he's going to do whatever he damn well pleases and her say doesn't matter to him, so what's the motivation to lie? Also, what would he do with all the money without her? Lying doesn't make any sense.

This is what happened: he got a diagnosis saying the cancer was back that softened his "I'm in the empire business" mentality. If you're sitting on that stack of cash and only have so long left to live, not much sense in continuing on in the business. Walter wants to have his cake and eat it too, but he's about to find out it doesn't work that way.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I agree with this. But what about the new distribution deal with the guys from last episode? You don't just enter a deal like that and walk away three months later.

The previous director of the DEA office was let go because he couldn't see Gus Fring right under his nose. What do you think will happen to Hank if/when it comes to light his own brother in law was operating right under his nose. On top of that, Walt's drug money paid for his physical therapy.

Even though Hank has been, for the most part, the most sterling character on the show, it's not a given that he'll give up Walt because of what it may do to his career.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

How did I miss that 3 months passed from the beginning to the end of the episode?

I didn't even think of that. Yes, how does he get out of that? He's lying to Skylar because he knows he's dying and he doesn't want to die alone. But I think he is just as stuck in the business as he was under Gus.

What if Walt's going to war with the guys from last week so that he can get out? He runs away to hide his family, and then comes back to take care of business and end the threat to everyone before he dies from cancer.

But, that was an awfully big gun he bought...

Because the show trained us to think everything happens consecutively, as that's what it's always done. But it was always going to make a big jump ahead in time, since the first five and a half seasons happened over the course of one calendar year and the next half season was going to occur over that same period of time. During that cook/distribution montage with the transports motorways and tramlines, starting and then stoppings, taking off and landings, there were several sun up and sun downs, the green/yellow setups over a variety of houses to show a multitude of days spent cooking, etc. I actually paused right after that sequence and asked my wife "how much time are to assume just passed there?" As soon as I hit play skyler was talking to marie and marie says "it's been three months since..." And now I can't remember what she said but I think something about the kids living there. Anyway, that was the basic time period being conveyed as to when all this was going on.

I think this is true. However, I've always thought that his obsession with Heisenberg would eventually kill his career. If he doesn't give him up, he's going to take matters in his own hands.

Certainly a possibility. He may think he can just step away now, but these guys aren't going to make it easy. And who else would he be coming back to go to war with at this point? Certainly not the dea and nobody else is in the picture from the drug game. And why would he come back to abq at all if not to protect his family from someone? This scenario seems pretty plausible.

Obviously, when everything is speeding up, time is passing, but I never knew exactly how much. Three months with the kids there, but haven't they been with Hank and Marie for a few episodes?

Someone on cb laid out a laundry lists of reasons why hank can't pursue walt without also implicating himself in helping walter rise to the top. The murder of the cousins, his investigation of fring when nobody wanted him to do it only to have fring end up dead, last night knowing who all mike's guys in prison were only to have them end up dead, all the conversations he's had with walt in his office, etc. All of it can definitely be spun in a way that makes it look like hank was trying to pull strings behind the scenes. Some pretty interesting points.

The show loves these sped up sequences, but typically they've been limited to like one sunrise and set, or one cook, or whatever. This one had a bunch. But yeah, probably not exactly three months, but somewhere in that ballpark. They had the kids before, but like I said above, the show is famous for everything happening sequentially, so whatever that period of time hank and marie had the kids before that big montage, it had to have been relatively short. A couple of episodes typically covers a relatively brief period of time in breaking bad world. So maybe three months minus a couple of days? Three months minus a week? Something like that.
