No, I believe it's xbox' since the "s" sound is already there. Surfah, can you validate that?

This could be tricky. Perhaps we should get out our copies the Chicago Manual of Style: Surfahs Edition.

No, but the editors of that particular edition didn't know where to put the apostrophe.

IMO, if you want a thread to post pics and have people say, "nice photo" by all means start one.

Tim did come off a harsh to start this off and then when SG comes back snarky we all jump on him? Hell he was just helping out with some tips and then got accused of not enjoying the moment.

Then you have Surfah butchering the english language, which should never come from me, but I needed a comedic transition to clean this up.

So here is a pic I took in HK,

You photogs are as touchy as Flyn and Zubaz. Too bad people can't take constructive critisism. I was having my wife read this thread and the thing, as a beginner, that she appreciated the most was technical side. Space Ghost is one of the key contributors here and it would be a shame if he became gun shy because of some sensitive, over-reactive individuals.

Like this? I took it with your suggestions, at 135mm about 4 feet away.

The thing that doesnt work is blacking out everything but the barest hint of a petal. Roses don't do well in the dark, and the petals start to look ugly green.

Kiss my ass. You know, I wasn't being "sensitive" or "over-reactive" until assholes like you started saying that I was. If anything, the only person to over-react in this thread was Space Ghost himself, yet you're suggesting that everyone else except him is being sensitive. You've now put me in a precarious position in which I'm subject to your shitty accusations of being sensitive and over-reactive without being able to respond in a way that isn't over-reactive. My only recourse is to acknowledge that I am indeed NOW being sensitive, but that it was your accusation of such that pushed me to this point. So... while I wasn't being oversensitive until now, if you want oversensitive, you've got it, dickhead.

FN Phat, it was not cool of me to use that language in response to your post. I was frustrated and I shouldn't have responded while so. I offer a public apology.

No worries, Tim. I put my nose where it did not belong. I assumed that this thread was about all things photography and as such, open for critisism. Maybe I have a reading comprehension problem or not know enough of the history between posters but it seemed to me that people were jumping on SG over not much at all. It also seemed that he was a victim of a mob mentality. However, in the end, I do not have a dog in this fight and will graciously leave the thread. My comment was not directed towards you, exclusively.

FTR, I am somewhere between the two camps leaning more towards your idea of not taking away from the moment.

Back to the original subject . . . here is my "photo of the day".

I've become interested in photographing wildflowers and try to take photos of them wherever I go. This is a local variety which I think is Arroyo Lupine according to the guide Wildflowers of the East Bay Regional Park District which is available locally to help identify wildflowers in the area.

The biggest problem I usually encounter is that the flowers won't hold still when I want to take the photo, and the wind gusts always seem to pick up the closer I get with my camera. These happened to be in a ravine with less wind than normal. Taken with my Canon S5-IS.

What mm lens were you using? The reason I am asking is:

                              1. Between cranking up my lens distance and walking closer to my subject, I will always walk closer even if I have a monster lens that makes it unnecessary. That gives me greater flexibility in adjustments.

                              2. Your flowers in the foreground are beautiful, but to really complete your picture, I would have adjusted to create and emphasize the bokeh in the background. SG says that Canon cameras create lovely bokeh, and that would have been very pleasing.

The S5-IS is an all in one camera with a 12x zoom capability and macro and super-macro settings. I'm pretty sure the photo was taken at the camera's widest angle with one of the macro settings.

And I had to go look up the meaning of "bokeh", since this is the first time I remember ever having seen the word. Okay, it means blur, got it.

Since my camera is not an SLR, it's much more difficult to get all of the parameters the way I would want them especially out in direct sunlight. I usually go for the fastest shutter speed, which is going to give me a smaller f-stop number and more blur, I mean bokeh, of the things that I'm not focusing on.
