No way. First of all, there aren't enough Utah students at BYU to skew the numbers that heavily. Second, there are plenty of uber-motivated Asians dominating the top spots in Utah schools also (esp along the wasatch front). You are also making an implicit assumption that LDS students aren't smart enough to cut it against top competition. No way that is happening. Crazy talk.Originally posted by Applejack View PostIf some administrator at BYU is "fudging" like that, he/she should be fired. As an LDS school drawing from a specific subset of HS students, BYU is in a very unique situation that will skew that number. See DH's link on yield numbers for example.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostIsn't BYU's acceptance rate still like 55%? One data point: I know a student that was not even the top 20 of her Texas high school class but was a "Monson Scholar" at BYU. Of course her class size was about 1500 and the top 20 was dominated very motivated, non-LDS kids including a lot of Asians.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostNo way. One thing that bugs me about BYU is that weighted GPAs are not really considered as much as the state schools in Texas. Also, a lot of top schools take in consideration of the high school the applicant attended. I am not convince this is the case with BYU. It seems that kids wanting to go to BYU are better off taking more non-AP classes (and keeping their GPA high) and studying to do very well on ACT. I have seen kids raise their ACT scores by 5+ by taking a good ACT course, for example. That test can be gamed."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

So sort of related question...does anyone know of any state schools that are good where it's fairly easy to get residency? I have mixed feelings about byu, but I hate that our state school is Utah.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I don't know what 'sjbh' means and I can't find an answer googling that seems to fit what it means when people use it."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
