Oregon trip update:
We got up early (4:00 a.m.) on Wednesday at made it to Haystack Rock about 6:30 a.m. There was a foggy mist over the coast, which I love. The water was chilly but it wasn't too cold to walk around in. Haystack rock at low tide was cool - lots of starfish and anemones and crabs.

There were also lots of barnacles, and seagulls, and seaweed but they aren't as interesting as starfish, anemones, and crabs. Starfish are just cool. After a couple
hours beach-combing we went to Ecola State Park and hiked 2 miles along the cliff-side trail through lush forests. The views from the cliff-side trail were spectacular. We then drove down to Tillamook, had lunch and ice cream although we didn't go through the tour because there was a major long line (and I've seen plenty of dairy operations up close and in person in my life) and went to Cape Meares and visited the lighthouse and saw porpoises (we think) swimming in the ocean. The weather was beautiful the whole day.
The next day we headed to Silver Falls and did the full 7.2 mile 10-falls loop. It was much more crowded than the cliff-side hike at the coast, and the hiking was more like "trail walking" than really hiking - much less rugged/mountainous than the hike along the coast cliffs. However, Silver Falls didn't disappoint. Very beautiful. Great recommendation.
We also stopped in Idaho and saw Shoshone Falls but it was pretty disappointing as the falls were only running at about 25% capacity due to all the river water being diverted for irrigation. It would be cool to see at full capacity some day.
Now we're glad to be back in Utah where the temperature is projected to be a balmy 100 degrees instead of the brutal 112-115 degrees projected for Portland and Salem over the next week.

he has family there so he just stayed with them for five days then they did the touristy stuff. I think he got approval from work to just work remotely during his quarantine so he didn’t burn vacation days sitting around.
