The medical PR people should run a parallel campaign for these cretins. Pap smears for all women are a huge expense for health care. Get vaccinated and help decrease the deficit. Do it for America!

Would a PR campaign even reach them? Before Covid I think a lot of people could be persuaded, but probably not now. Targeting teens and young adults is probably the best route. You may be chaste, but your first partner might not have been. Etc.

      • I haven’t seen the paper this article is referencing but this is interesting. Wolves that roam near Chernobyl are exposed to unsafe levels of radiation yet seem resistant to cancer. There may be genetic variations that allow this, and that could lead to more insights for humans:

        • Nothing to read, but turn up the volume on this FB post that's a heartwarming sample of the Easter spirit. https://www.facebook.com/reel/336106176050378. The children's screams and the adult's "OMG!" really drive it home.

                • United health care is basically the evil empire in the health care world. For the past few months one of their subsidiaries has upended our normal reimbursements, so reading this and hoping for the long arm of the law to fine them into oblivion is the sweetest schadenfruede:

tl;dr UHC has been defrauding Medicare advantage by adding implausible diagnoses to patients, unbeknownst to their physicians. Other insurance companies appear to be doing it also but United is by far the worst offender.

                  • Nothing earth-shattering here, but for those who, like me, try to avoid reading too much about politics, I really enjoyed this obit (first time I have ever said that, unlike my MIL, who LOVES reading the obits).

Mitzi McCall was part of a comic duo who was on the Ed Sullivan Show the same night as The Beatles first appearance. The story is very interesting.

Also interesting to me was finding out that she played the dry-cleaner's wife on Seinfeld who held a very liberal view about borrowing clients' clothes.

                    • Good article on the new variant of monkey pox. Pretty sobering anecdotes and pictures from Congo.

                              • More political parties is a good thing. Would proportional representation work in the US? Some food for thought by this NYT article. No matter what you think about the merits of the article, the infographics are good. It starts of with this truism:

In early 2020, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the progressive Democrat from New York, was asked to speculate about her role under a Joe Biden presidency. She groaned. “In any other country, Joe Biden and I would not be in the same party,” she said, “but in America, we are.”
