This is a cool article about a procedure that effectively kills part of the brain to let the rest of it live without seizures, performed on a baby with no other options. There's some brain-y videos that are always amazing to see.

This is a very well written article about how the definition of medical futility of treating previously thought lethal conditions in babies changes as medicine improves. In this case, it is trisomy 18, which 25 years ago I was taught was almost uniformly fatal. It presents many valid viewpoints and does it in a very respectful way.

Insane story of a 65 year old woman with 13 kids, 6 of them after she was 40 and well into her 50s, forged her husband's signature to get more children through IVF surrogacy. She was charged with felonies and the resulting 14-15th children placed in foster care. And their custody is still in limbo.

This Onion is great:
It keeps getting better.Well, well, well. What have we got here? Another city slicker who thinks he can waltz into my town and start causin’ all sorts of trouble. I’d be careful if I was you, fella. Because however they do things where you’re from, ’round here we have our own way of dealin’ with criminals, and that’s through a rehabilitation-centered restorative justice process.

In case you haven't read it yet, this article is getting a ton of buzz. Fairly long, but fascinating and disturbing.

I read about half the article then had to do something. Twenty minutes later I went back to read the rest and my company had blocked it.
Suspicious.

I don’t think this translates to all industries, but it’s definitely a problem in some."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Interesting article. Premise is that large home don't make you more happy. In many cases, the opposite happens. Also, you are most happy with 4 people in the household.
This is gift link, so it should work.
Why smaller houses can lead to happier lives
It turns out asking “Are you happy with your home?” yields a very different answer than “Are you happy with your life?”
January 6, 2026 at 5:00 a.m. ESTThe American Dream is virtually synonymous with a larger, suburban house. But as the size of the average American home has nearly doubled, the people living in them aren’t any happier.
Space is only one of many variables in the equation of a happy life, says Mariano Rojas, an economist at the National Technological Institute of Mexico. It’s not the most important.
The average newly built American home includes more than 940 square feet per person, up from about 550 square feet in 1973.That’s because even as the typical single-family home has grown to 2,400 square feet, the number of people living in them has fallen to a record low of 2.5, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
But after meeting our basic need for shelter, square footage has, at best, a tenuous relationship with life satisfaction."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

This validates Mrs. NWC. Our last 2 house purchases have been downsizers. She feels more comfortable in a smaller home. Her preferences for lot size, on the other hand...Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostInteresting article. Premise is that large home don't make you more happy.
