    A post-worst date story:

During dinner on a good date, I was asked for my worst date story, so I told her about Loretta, and that it had been three years and I hadn't seen or heard from her since.

After dinner we attended a wedding reception, and a girl who looked vaguely familiar said "Hi [Fiyero]," and I said hi in return but must have looked confused because she added "you don't remember me, do you. I'm Loretta."

My date had to look away, stifling a laugh.

You took a date to a wedding reception? I see why this ended up in the "worst date" thread.

Different Whitney. I am talking about the short blond that worked at Media Play with us...the one that went to Brighton.

I dont have a very good story, but what the heck.

I didnt go on very many dates in highschool. My senior year, my bestfriend basically made me decide to go to senior prom, because I had not been to any of the other ones. So he tells me who to ask, and she seemed nice enough the times we hung out before the day. We are going in a group of like 8 people. So we go to dinner in SLC at Rubys. First thing I remember is that she ordered about double what I ordered, and I was a big guy. We then go to the dance and it was nice enough, but I guess we had never really connected to the point where there would ever be a second date. Anyways, I am the driver of me her and another couple. So on the way home to provo, she turns around to ask them something, and sees they are busy laying on top of each other doing everything but having sex. Then it is basically silent the whole way home, with the *ahem* noises from the back. Very awkard to say the least.

Every night around 9 my district would gather in one of our rooms and eat oranges we'd saved from lunch around a garbage can while telling bad date stories. We called it Orange Time, and it was the daily highlight of our time there.

The thing was, my companion, who was from Ephraim, was not interested at all in joining us, and instead spent the time studying or reading in the next room. We tried constantly to get him to share with us, but he turned us down every time except once.

One night we were seating around the garbage can and he wandered over and asked if we wanted to hear his story. We enthusiastically said yes, and he grabbed a chair and sat down with us.

He had crushed on this girl in his town for ever and ever. They were friends, but he'd never had to guts to actually ask her out. Finally, his senior year, he asked her out and she said yes. He doubled with his recently RM'd brother and they went to a corn maze.

Once in the maze, everyone got separated. My comp ended up wandering back to the car, where his brother's date was. They agreed to go out looking for the other two and then meet back at the car in 10 minutes.

My companion went back into the maze and didn't find anyone. Upon his arrival back at the car, he found his date (and longtime crush, remember) and his brother making out.

Well, that was the end of that date, and poor Elder Ephraim spent the next few months pining over his lost love, who was now dating his brother.

Suffice it to say, the rest of us elders were all astounded at the tragedy (and comedy) exhibited in this story, and we congratulated Elder Ephraim on a job well done.

Six months later, I ran into my old MTC companion while in the field on a P-Day. He was reading e-mails from his family, and after I asked him how things were going back home, he showed me one from his brother.

He was marrying Elder Ephraim's longtime crush. The digital wedding announcement involved cowboy hats and a vests.

In the end, Elder Ephraim got married five months after we all got home, so I guess he wasn't too damaged by these events, but it remain the best real-life soap opera saga I've ever heard.
That reminds me of what happened to one of my friends. Like a ton of others, he was dumped while on the mission. He was understandably upset, but became more upset when he got a letter telling him that his ex-girlfriend and older brother were seriously dating. It didn't get any better when their wedding announcement arrived. The icing on the cake, however, came on the wedding day. My friend was feeling pretty down, and while muttering in that way depressed people tend to, he said, "I wonder what they're doing." His companion looked at his watch and said, "They're probably having sex." I later served with that companion, and I learned first hand how much of a jerk he could be.
                Not that, sickos.

There have not been too many bad dates I have been on. I took one girl to the International Dance Festival in Rexburg at a Stadium that is no longer used for what it was intended for. I still wish the real thing would come back up there not the tryout football thing.

Wound up sitting in front of her parents and nephews and nieces. She was embarrased. Did not bother me in the slightest. Though Girl was a little weird. Asked me to go with her to some movies before.

One girl acted like I was obligated to date her. Before Caller ID was universal she called me had my number but I had bad feeling about her. Thought she was weird.

Anyway she moved but came back and I was there and people that wanted to set us up I hate being set up said I was home. She got a hold of me saying if we become boyfriend/girlfriend is your mom going to tell everyone thats grapes girlfriend. I thought she was psycho myself.

Went reluctantly with her did not say much whole time. Begged me to go to Boise State so I could date her more that is where she lived then moved with brother. I just graduated from Ricks. Was glad to get out of there. She kept calling me Saturday and Sunday. Heard want to go to church there can she come have dinner at my parents place if it was up to me no. Did invite me to 4th of July fireworks on a Sunday no less. I did go watch some someowere else. What a hypocrite.

She always called me and invited me to her place. I just ignored her. Before universal caller id though I came close to getting it for that reason. Called once right during middle of General Conference. Informed me I was the RM she waited a long time for. Pure manipulation on her part and no attraction. BKP in a book called eternal love mentioned being too straightforward. I listened to talk online and know that from personal expereince. Someone felt obligated.

I get home from mission read teachings of SWK and were find you spouse I was reading in library. Put moves on someone and find through third party want to date other people. I heard that many times don't want to date samd guy twice. Though many of my dates were great even if I didn't see much of them again.

Some I could tell could get somewere others no. And I am not good on door opening etiquette myself. Worse was I would invite girls I was attracted too to temple and let there friends go and he would confirm her sit in front and open door. Not good when you think they are yours.

Only one really memorable one -

Freshman at BYU, double dated with a cute girl from my ward who was from Dallas - loved the accent. The other couple was a girl who I knew from my home stake and a guy who was also from Dallas - for the record, his accent did nothing for me.

Thing went okay - although the guy from Dallas was kind of a prick. We were at the old "Pie Pizzeria" right across form Helaman Halls. Dallas guy went to the bathroom, and I asked the girl from my stake where she found this loser. At which point, my date dumps an entire pitcher of soda in my lap. The "loser" was her twin brother.

                          Oops...

A year late... but I have a funny story.

After my mission, I lived in the "old" Pine View apartments, even though my family lived in Orem. My folks had a family membership to The European Health Spa, and I'd often take advantage of the sauna/steam/spa after a hard day of skiing. I was a bit of a regular, between going with my Dad, and on my own.

One early evening, after skiing, I was sitting in the steam room, and this guy walked in. He was a bit of a regular, as I recognized him, and we started talking. He seemed like a funny guy. We talked golf, and he asked if if I liked horses. I said yeah. He said his family had some horses, and if I wanted to ride up Rock Canyon we could do it Thursday. I was free Thursday, and it sounded fun, as I hadn't been up the canyon since a scout hike, so I said sure.

I met him at the mouth of the canyon, and we rode up to the back of Y mountain. We got there, and he pulled out a blanket and some sandwiches, and some soda, and we ate, and chatted. He said it was so hard to find special friends, that he was about to give up. He talked in all the half innuendos that could be taken gay/straight. At this point I was totally getting the message, that I was the object of his desire. I told him that there had been a miscommunication, and that I needed to get back. Down the canyon, I just left the horse for him to take care of, and got the hell outta there.
