FYI as an arteest and now college educator teaching others how to be arteests my salary range is commensurate with the table outlining what engineers make. I love the career path I chose and my current job. Did I mention that I get 48 days vacation this summer?

Nice points all around. Were you able to garner such a benefits package by reading teen books at all points of the day? I may end up with 10-15 years of free time at the Point of the Mountain Spa if our current course holds.

I didn't read teen books all day but I sure doodled and drew ALOT much to the chagrin of my parents and teachers. I was a terrible student because school was painfully boring. The only reason I bothered to make any effort at all was to ensure I could play sports. My parents gave me hell, it didn't help. At home they taught me how to work hard and to be grateful for what I had. Outside of school work they trusted me. That trust, demonstrations on how to work hard and to have a grateful, charitable attitude was a much better education than I received at school. When the time came for me to grow up and apply myself I excelled.

Education is really just a game up to a certain point. It's only designed to deal with people who are willing to be square pegs forced into square holes.

We have always known that you are an outlier.

There's a lot of us outliers in the world. Crazy thing is when I was young my preferred career path was engineer.

              Pharmacists...

Yeah, they dropped the ability to get a license with a 5-year BS in pharmacy - now it's a 6 to 7.5 year PharmD (depending on your class rank - whether you can do your rotations in the summers). But you don't earn any other degree before that: 2 years of undergrad. Apply. Get admitted. Then 6 semesters of academic work and 5 semesters of rotations. Starting pay ~$105K. Top earning potential - about 10% more than that (plus COLA). The high end isn't great, but the lack of stress, and adding in that you get paid for all your overtime makes it a pretty nice gig...

Well, there can't be too many or they wouldn't be outliers, would they?

Had you stuck with math you would understand this.

Lack of stress? Tell that to the pharmacist that I consulted to run a highly dangerous drip on for a patient that could have bled to death by sneezing on her. That is stress.

                    Let's see...
                    • My brother is an aerospace (rocket fuel combustion) engineer.
                    • Our oldest daughter is an year away from graduating in ChemE.
                    • Our next oldest daughter is studying computer engineering.
                    • My undergraduate degree is in electrical engineering.
                    • My other brother graduated in economics.
                    • My uncle graduated in physics.
                    • Our son who is starting BYU this fall plans to study mechanical engineering.
                    • I have a nephew that graduated in computer sci.
                    • We have another daughter, currently in high school, that is thinking about civil and environmental engineering.

So we almost have the top ten covered. Oh, BTW, engineers also make the best terrorists so don't mess with the family.

hospital pharmacists are probably pretty stressed. Target pharms probably are not.

I don't mean it as a slight but most people round these parts consider anyone from Utah, let alone a Mormon an outlier.
