    It's conspicuously missing actuaries.

Couldn't agree more. This will give some hard facts to the argument that I am currently having with my 13 year old. If that doesn't work, I will probably end up killing her.

Yeah, but the list is based on undergrad degrees, not careers or post-grad degrees. I am assuming that most actuaries major in stats as undergrads. Is that not the case?

And hey, we get it. You are loaded.

Most actuaries don't get graduate degrees. The actuarial exam program is more than sufficient "graduate study".

A Civil engineer and a mechanical engineer that I work with found out an uneducated, redneck superintendent that is just starting off was making more than they were out of college. That didn't sit well. I told them come back in 20 years and compare salaries at that point. That superintendent will be working for them.

I hate lists like this because I never know how accurate they are. But if I'm reading this list correctly, after 7 years in my field I'm already over the mid-career median salary. I don't know if that is a function of my location or my intelligence but I'm inclined to say it's most likely my location.

I'm actually surprised that ChemE is still higher than EE.

I wonder if the list is for people that have only earned bachelors and masters, because most accountants with a masters should be making well north of that figure for mid-career median average salary.

I won't comment if I think this is accurate or not, but it's probably more accurate than the numbers originally quoted.

I couldn't agree more. A well-rounded education is the best thing you can give your children. It lets people figure out if they want to be a teacher or an engineer, or both.

Because of my own interests, I'm taking pains to make sure that my kids embrace the sciences and math, so that I don't limit their own interests by my often-overwhelming personality. Therefore, we're sending our oldest to this camp (for the 2nd time) so that she gets exposure to stuff that we really aren't experts in:

Ha, I didn't say or imply that, just that I'm over the median salary for an accountant (which is well south of 6 figures). In my location if you are not over that amount then you are doing it wrong.

I'm not about to disclose any pay related information, especially in a forum full of lawyers and doctors who most likely started at a pay scale above what I'm currently earning.
