My son saved up his money and bought a 1st gen ipod touch off of ebay. Unfortunately, whenever he tries to download an app from the app store, it says that it requires 3.0 software. I checked and his has v2.2.1. Is there any fix for this?At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

When he syncs to iTunes, on the Summary tab, there should be a button to "Check for Update" for the software. I assume a 1st gen should be able to upgrade to at least 3.0.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostMy son saved up his money and bought a 1st gen ipod touch off of ebay. I did that and it says his software version is up to date. I'm now updating itunes to the latest version to see if that works.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostWhen he syncs to iTunes, on the Summary tab, there should be a button to "Check for Update" for the software. You might have to do it this way....Originally posted by ERCougar View PostI did that and it says his software version is up to date. I'm now updating itunes to the latest version to see if that works.
(1) download the file iPod1,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw from somewhere. Apple may not be distributing it anymore. For example it looks like you can download it from here:
(2) Using iTunes do a restore using this file by doing an "alt/option" click and mouse/pad clicking on the restore button in iTunes. On windows it might be something else. This should bring up an open panel to allow you to select the file above you downloaded.
Please note this will wipe out everything he has on his ipod so backing it up first would be a good idea.

No, you will need to do it using iTunes. It is a firmware update.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostCan I do this directly from the ipod's browser or do I have to go through itunes somehow?"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Yes! It worked! Thanks.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostNo, you will need to do it using iTunes. It is a firmware update.
I used one of the free download unofficial links and it worked. However, before you gave me that idea, I purchased it on my AppleID, but couldn't get it to link onto his touch. I just set up the appleID on his touch so he could get the apps that I've purchased on the ipad. Will this work?At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

If you use the same apple id you should be able to install all the apps installed on your iPad that will work on an iPod running iOS 3.X on your son's iPod as well without being charged again.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostYes! It worked! Thanks.

LDS scripture Citation index app.
Nice app that allows you to type in nearly any scripture verse and it provides you with links to published talks and other resources relevant to that verse. I can see it as being useful for preparing talks or lessons.

It is overrated. I think quick office mobile is much better. The syncing capabilities makes all the difference.Originally posted by 1337coug View PostHas anyone tried the iWork apps (specifically numbers) on the iPhone?
