The Nike+ GPS app is free for a limited time. No idea when it stops being free.

My son saved up his money and bought a 1st gen ipod touch off of ebay. Unfortunately, whenever he tries to download an app from the app store, it says that it requires 3.0 software. I checked and his has v2.2.1. Is there any fix for this?

When he syncs to iTunes, on the Summary tab, there should be a button to "Check for Update" for the software. I assume a 1st gen should be able to upgrade to at least 3.0.

I did that and it says his software version is up to date. I'm now updating itunes to the latest version to see if that works.

Yes, I think you shopuld be able to do it with the latest version of iTunes. They may charge you for it.

You might have to do it this way....

              (1) download the file iPod1,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw from somewhere. Apple may not be distributing it anymore. For example it looks like you can download it from here:

              (2) Using iTunes do a restore using this file by doing an "alt/option" click and mouse/pad clicking on the restore button in iTunes. On windows it might be something else. This should bring up an open panel to allow you to select the file above you downloaded.

Please note this will wipe out everything he has on his ipod so backing it up first would be a good idea.

              HTH.

Can I do this directly from the ipod's browser or do I have to go through itunes somehow?

No, you will need to do it using iTunes. It is a firmware update.

                    Yes! It worked! Thanks.

I used one of the free download unofficial links and it worked. However, before you gave me that idea, I purchased it on my AppleID, but couldn't get it to link onto his touch. I just set up the appleID on his touch so he could get the apps that I've purchased on the ipad. Will this work?

If you use the same apple id you should be able to install all the apps installed on your iPad that will work on an iPod running iOS 3.X on your son's iPod as well without being charged again.

                        LDS scripture Citation index app.

Nice app that allows you to type in nearly any scripture verse and it provides you with links to published talks and other resources relevant to that verse. I can see it as being useful for preparing talks or lessons.

i've been using logmein to work rather than trying to connect to what might be the worst vpn server in the entire universe. logmein is awesome. i love that it's browser based.

Has anyone tried the iWork apps (specifically numbers) on the iPhone? I've been using numbers to make work schedules, and having them on my phone seems really handy.

It is overrated. I think quick office mobile is much better. The syncing capabilities makes all the difference.
