Utah's never beaten a team ranked 1,2 or 3. Not that I'm aware of anyway.

BYU has beaten 1 team ranked #1 and 2 teams ranked #3 (are there others?) in the pre-season rankings. Big deal. Pre-season rankings mean absolutely nothing.

Congrats to BYU for a win over Oklahoma. Truthfully, that means nothing if BYU doesn't finish the season undefeated, because a loss later in the season only hurts BYU's chances at a BCS bowl game.

lol! This is why we love you.

As can be expected, I was thrilled with the Cougar victory over the Sooners and as you and LAUte have pointed out, so are reasonable Ute fans (though if you cheer for BYU for all but one game a season, you're pretty much an honorary Coug). I don't want to take anything away from the Ute victory in the Sugar Bowl. It was great. The atmosphere of New Orleans; the Superdome, the game, the music, the parties, the crowds of fans, the food. You would have loved it!

This is a good point. Has Utah ever beaten a team with a Heisman winner on it? Actually, have they ever beaten a team with a Heisman candidate on it? They may have, I'm not sure.

Speaking of this, nice article on FoxSports re: BYU's win. I couldn't find anything about Utah's win, otherwise I would have posted it (I don't want to be accused of being biased!).

BYU, certainly, has a difficult schedule. But after the way the Cougars defeated Oklahoma, their upside could rival even champions of some BCS conferences. This is a team that showed it can do it with defense as well as offense, and the Cougars can use their Cowboys Stadium performance as a launching pad for the rest of the season.

Consider the way Utah soared in the polls last year with a 12-0 regular-season record that included a season-opening victory against ho-hum Michigan, and a triumph over Oregon State. Wins over Oklahoma and Florida State would carry much more weight nationally.

Utah's win over Michigan will only be bigger if Oklahoma has a worse season than Michigan did and the Y doesn't crash the BCS.

I think you mean that it means nothing if BYU doesn't win the title. I agree with you there.

Finishing undefeated in and of itself means nothing, unless you ask National Champions like Tulane, Marshall, and Boise State!

OU's season is in jeopardy as a direct result of BYU's stellar and punishing defense. Well wishes to Sam on a speedy recovery.

Michigan was just lousy. There was no loss of a Heisman winner on their squad to excuse the lousiness. I think the term the press is using is "ho hum Michigan."

No, because the BCS will never allow a non-BCS team to play for it's fake championship. An undefeated season will get BYU into one of the four bowl games, but one loss from here on out will kill BYU's chances.

                        NFLdraftcountdown mock draft:

                        number 1 overall: Gerald Mccoy
                        Number 2: Sam Bradford
                        Number 5: Trent Williams
                        Number 17: Jermaine Gresham

That is 4 first round picks.

                        ESPN.com

                        By position rank:

                        QB: 1. Sam Bradford
                        DT: 1. Gerald Mccoy
                        OT: 1. Trent Williams
                        TE: 1. Jermaine Gresham
                        FB: 2. Matt Clapp
                        DE: 8. Austin English
                        DT: 7. Demarcus Granger

6 players in the top 100, twice as many as any other team.
This is another way of stating the preseason rankings. Regardless, I don't caer what these ESPN windbags say about future draft picks a year before teh draft. Where did these fellows have Sean Smith this time last year?

good point. these are the same windbags that suggested that Bogut and Smith should be #1 picks in the pros! lol!

Michigan turned out to be lousy. I agree. But remember, while not ranked #3, they were ranked in the pre-season polls.

I can't comment on how punishing BYU's defense was, as I didn't watch the game. I was not being provincial and was cheering for the national futbol team that evening.
