This BYU game has altered the landscape for the entire season. It has likely prevented Bradford from repeating as Heisman winner. It has put the relative value of the UT vs. OU game in doubt. It has utterly changed the landscape.

Wow. BYU's claim to fame here is injuring Bradford? Yes, knocking out Bradford has potentially (he will probably be back for the UT game) changed the Big-12 race, which has BCS implications. But he could've as easily been injured playing a directional school.

Think about this: Do you really think the MWC would have 3 teams in the top 20 if Utah had lost to Alabama?

I have to agree with SU that unless BYU goes on to win a lot of games and contend for a national championship, this game doesn't mean much in the long run. This especially holds true if OU goes no place without their starting QB and other prime talent.

Moreover, isn't the beginning of the season the time when statistical flukes are the most likely to happen? The win is a huge morale booster, and will carry the Cougs deep into the season, but we can't know if this was a win-win or a fluke-win until the team is further tested.

Of course the game was the biggest story of week 01, but if it turns out that a low-scoring squeaker against a heavily injured OU was just a fluke, what kind of long-term meaning does this game have?

I hope this is the starting salvo of an undefeated season, but if some young gun comes along and pulls a fluke win against BYU, this game will lose a lot of its current meaning.
