Yes. I agree that SeattleUte has made a very cogent point and it deserves to be recognized.

I particularly found compelling his support for rankings that are not magazine based, but the result of voters that are entrusted with ranking teams after the games are played. In doing so, he basically sums up all of our feelings about that blessed 1984 National Championship (and Detmer's Heisman, as well).

Celebrate the U's overall mediocrity and total lack of media attention with us! Don't fight it!
Maybe BYU should file a lawsuit seeking to enjoin the BCS to invite it to a BCS bowl right now, before another game is played.

I don't know, but I'll bet Cody Hoffman's stoked he picked BYU over Sactown State.

This win will be remembered because BYU beat the #3 team on national television, not because it has BCS implications. If BYU loses during this season, the BCS hype is done, but the OU win will still be one for the ages. And that is why it is a bigger win than a win over a #5 ranked team. And not quite as big as the win over Michigan...because that was the win that sealed that National Championship.

I can tell you are really annoyed. What bothers you more? That the media is paying zero attention to the Utes, who are on an amazing win streak that nobody cares about? that the Utes biggest OOC game this season will be against a crappy Oregon team that is the butt of jokes at this point? Or that while BYU was beating OU on national television, the Utes were playing Utah State on justintv.com? take your pick!

The way he was writhing on the ground, I'd be surprised if he's back soon. I had what the doctor called a grade IV which required surgery, and when it happened, I could immediately tell something was wrong, but I could calmly walk off the mat. Bradford was in a lot of pain.

The way he writhed around, I assumed he had dislocated his shoulder. He didn't act like an AC separation at all. I know they hurt, but not like that kind of pain--unless you're seeing the prospect of $40 milllion slipping away...
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Weird. I could have sworn I put this in the Bradford's injury thread. Oh well.

Babs, before you start pronouncing Staurday as beyond the realm of possiblity let's see how good Oklahoma turns out to be. Utah has beaten a Pete Carroll coached USC team. A big tradition doesn't make a team unbeatable by an MWC team, as we saw last year in the season opener in the Big House. BYU's win at South Bend may be as big or bigger.

I'm not convinced that Oklahoma won't be this year's Michigan. Regardless, unless BYU winds up 13-0, a BCS bowl champand and ranked 2 and 4 or something like that, Utah's win against Michigan last year was substantially bigger.
Seattle, have you even read my posts? That's exactly what I said. I said that as of right now, the Sugar Bowl win is bigger and it's "not even close."

I also said that I see Oklahoma with a minimum of three losses, and likely 8-4. It's unfortunate for BYU, but it is what it is. I said that IF (and I said that it's unlikely) the Sooners were to win out, then this one would be bigger, not because of the game itself, but only because the BYU program needed to prove itself much moreso than Utah did.

You don't give your team enough credit. A brand new o-line will always make mistakes in the first game or two but they'll get better as the season goes on. This is still a team loaded with a bunch of 4 and 5 star athletes.

Porn Stache will get better in a hurry. I believe he was a top 5 QB coming out of high school and the only bad error he made was not hiking the ball in time on that 4th and short. He still completed 50% of his passes and didn't turn over the ball and I don't recall him throwing a ball that was even close to being intercepted. Give him some reps with the first team in practice, plus a couple gimme games and he'll beat Miami in four weeks. By the time you play Texas, you'll be 4-1. Bradford will likely be back for that game and the o-line will be playing better at that point.

I doubt OU will beat Texas this year. Texas is loaded and easily the 2nd best team right now. However, the rest of OU's schedule is favorable. Texas Tech is rebuilding this year and OU gets Okie St. in Norman. All in all, I see OU finishing 10-2 and be in position to get its ass kicked again in a BCS bowl game.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

BYU already has like 42 recruits commited for the 2010 class...this might push them to 45.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Nope. Texas is almost a guaranteed loss. Then we've got Tech in Lubbock, OkSU in Stillwater, Nebraska in Lincoln. There's at least one loss in there. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose at Miami.

As far as the quarterback goes, it might be better that Bradford not come back. We've been through this with Jason White. What they do is put the guy back in as soon as the doctor clears him to play, rather than when he's actually healthy and accurate again. I don't see that being the case for Bradford anytime soon.
