Little known fact, in both 1984 and 2001 BYU skipped their ninth win and went from 8 to 10 wins.

Hah. I was thinking the same thing every time that cycled through.

I will always appreciate Tom for his work in the Jimmy Mac-BYU reconciliation. I love seeing him in stuff like this.

            I'm all in.

For some reason in the versions they played on BYUTV the McMahon clip didn’t make it in.

                • I hate to say it, but I think we have to add one or two good games to have any chance of even making a NY6 bowl. If the CFP poll mirrors the current AP poll, we’d be in the last at large spot for a NY6 spot. If we get jumped by a P5 team that isn’t leading their conference, we’re out. Northwestern beating Wisconsin today really hurt BYU’s chances. Northwestern is now 5-0 with 3 games left against Michigan State, Minnesota, and Illinois (all of which are terrible this year). There’s a very good chance Northwestern is undefeated going into the Big Ten Championship game. If that happens, I don’t see any way they don’t jump BYU. And if they play Ohio State close, they could stay ahead.

One of the SEC teams ahead of us losing would help, but Florida and A&M’s schedules are pretty easy going forward. I could also see the CFP board putting a two loss SEC team (like Georgia) ahead of us.

I think the odds are that BYU ends up in the Potato Bowl again, which would be a shame after this awesome season. If we can somehow get one or two additional regular season games on the schedule, maybe we can squeeze in, but they’d have to be really good ones. And it will be hard to get any good teams to play us. None of the P5 conferences (except the P12 ... with ridiculous terms) are allowing out of conference games. A game against Cincy would probably help, but seems unlikely.

I know. I hope I’m wrong. I have zero faith that the CFP committee will give BYU a fair shot though. When 10/12 members of the committee are closely affiliated with P5 programs, it shouldn’t be surprising that there’s a strong bias against non-P5 teams:

That would be cool. I’d love to watch that game. But I’m not sure they’ll give two non-P5 teams NY6 spots. It hasn’t happened before. But this year might be strange enough for it to happen.

Sure it has. TCU played Boise.

Yeah, super unlikely in a normal year. This year is far from normal.

                              Also a way to make sure a P5 team doesn’t lose a NY6 bowl to a G5 team.

Yup, and that was when there were only 4 big boy games and not 6
