Not sure exactly where this should go, but apparently Jeff Grimes interviewed for the USU job. Seems a bit odd as I always thought he would try for somewhere in the south. Not sure if he would get it anyway.

For some reason I'd be more worried had we beaten CC the way we should have.

The thing that bums me out the most is for the past 20 years I have watched as every other significant non P5 CFB program make a BCS/NY6 bowl, and BYU just can't pull together a complete season. And some johnny come lately douchy program from South Carolina can (well if it wasn't for Cinci they would). I understand a lot of this is highly motivated coaching talent that is using those programs as a spring board to better jobs, but I'll be damned if it isn't frustrating.

Maybe my anger is making me irrational, but the BYU program just seems to be psychologically weak in any game that matters. I feel like this has been consistent the last decade. Is this a culture issue? Is the program just buying into the hype the institution/media machine is so good at generating? Is there a sense of entitlement that is detrimental to mental toughness?

Sure BYU can win big games, but rarely when they have something to lose.

Frustrating loss to be sure. But, when the dust settles, I hope people realize that losing by one yard to an underranked Top 20 team, on the road, two time zones away, with effectively one day of prep time, is not something to get angry or embarrassed by. This isn’t like the 2001 blowout loss to Hawaii. This was a respectable loss against a legitimately good team in the toughest of circumstances. There were plenty of mental errors, which isn’t surprising given the circumstances. But the fact that we still came within one yard of winning in spite of those errors should show that BYU is also a legitimately great team that deserves all of our respect, regardless of where the end up bowling this year.

I think that is irrational. Games that matter are games against good teams. Sometimes you lose to good teams. Sometimes you beat them.

BYU has shown that it can both beat and lose to good teams.

I know I'm being irrational.

To be honest it is just crazy to have as much confidence as I had given that this game was taken on such short notice, with like a day to game plan for CC, and played on the other side of the country.

Hey, it was a fun ride while it lasted, BYU. Well up until the wheels came off. Covid made for an interesting year. Holmoe really proved his worth. Kalani et al got exposed tonight after a short week.

Match us up against Utah for the bowl game. It would be nice to have something else to play for.
