I'm going to refrain from commenting on this for now, just curious to see what some of you think about this interview.

I think it's mildly funny that Bronco suggested Manti's waffling on a church mission was a primary factor in his spurning of BYU, when there are high-profile recruits in this year's BYU class that are either non-LDS or LDS and have no mission plans.

Also, I say this not as a frothing "anti-Donko" guy but as a somehwat objective observer, you can be honest without being "honest". You don't have to promise him a starting spot, but you don't have to tell him he'll be 5th on the depth chart, either. Tell him he'll start if he earns it while making it clear there's 5 seniors ahead of him.

Usually when a young man who is LDS -- a member of our church -- has things presented as clearly as he had it presented to him and choses not to come, there usually is a reason they don't want to come.
"And it is usually not football-related. And so Manti chose a private institution, with a religious background without truly the same semblance of rules, or an honor code, like BYU has.
So LDS football kids who choose not to go to the BYU do so for "not football-related" reasons?

Who's Bronco kidding? There's plenty of beer and sex in Provo, if it's about escaping the Honor Code.

I don't know this kid, but choosing to play at Notre Dame over the BYU is probably a "football-related" reason.

I am not a big fan of BYU athletic coaches getting involved in kids religious decisions. Supporting them, yes, but not being a catalyst. Let the religion teachers at BYU coerce them. Isn't that why you have to take religion classes at BYU anyway.

Well put. I think this is how I would feel if I was a BYU fan.

I read this last night. I don't think that Bronco should have said hardly anything at all about it. It doesn't do him any favors talking about a recruit to the media after he chose to go to another school.

All I think Bronco should have said on the subject was something like "Manti chose to play football for Notre Dame and we here at BYU wish him the best of luck in both his personal and football career."

This is why HL should become a head football coach.

In a way I started on that career path. It was what I always wanted to do. Mrs. Hot Lunch wouldn't have it though.

Exactly, if I want to hear Bronco's testimony, I will attend one of his Fast and Testimonial meetings or a fireside.

No. He boozed it up on a recruiting visit to BYU, was told he could sit out a year like Kyle Van Noy did for his DUI indiscretions, and declined the offer. It's that simple.

The hours are brutal and the job security nonexistent. Mrs. Hot Lunch sounds smart (but I feel your pain).

So Bronco gave Manti the same option that he gave Van Noy? This is the first I have heard of this.

After the recruiting party Bronco laid it on the line with Manti and Manti obviously didnt like what he heard.

THe fact that bronco said he probably wouldnt start pisses me off, especially since our 5 senior linebackers suck. Let me add that I am also glad that Bronco said something since BYU and Bronco himself were dragged through the mud during and after the recruitment of Manti.
