One of the many dumb things about this blurb is that Bronco isn't just taking a gratuitous swipe at Manti, he is taking one at all the other LDS recruits that went elsewhere.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostI read this last night. I don't think that Bronco should have said hardly anything at all about it. It doesn't do him any favors talking about a recruit to the media after he chose to go to another school.
All I think Bronco should have said on the subject was something like "Manti chose to play football for Notre Dame and we here at BYU wish him the best of luck in both his personal and football career."
Bronco is blowing smoke. There are plenty of LDS players that go to BYU and do not go on missions. Manti choose to not come to BYU because he didn't want to compete for a starting spot (immaturity on his part) and because a football program like Notre Dame is much cooler football program (practical decision on his part), national fanbase, on national TV most of the year, doesn't have to accomplish much to get into a BCS game, etc. My guess is that Manti also chose to go elsewhere because Bronco rubbed him the wrong way.
I hope all of our awesome returned missionary linebackers are effective against Oklahoma because I have a feeling we will need as many 5 star linebackers in Dallas as possible.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Bronco isn't so dumb either. This kind of stuff really pumps up the part of the fan base that would "rather lose with integrity than win without it". It also plays into the resentment people have for BYU because of the, "we are more moral than the rest of you."
I wonder how the integrity base would have reacted if he had said, "some LDS kids just don't like the overbearing, controlling, babysitting atmoshpere that is here at BYU."

Not a bright shining moment for our fanbase. Regardless of his shortcomings as a head coach, the fanbase behavior towards him and his family was pretty pathetic.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI always thought being a football coach would be an awesome job, until I got to know the Crowton family. No salary would be worth it for me.

I wonder what Andrew rich thought about the comment where he said they will play the best players regardless of class."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."
"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."

Especially the group that wanted his head because he let people into the program that embarassed BYU.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostNot a bright shining moment for our fanbase. I wonder if those same people are after the heads of those who let the "notorious seminary principal" into the program. "mullahs" and "aluf's" are an obsession of mine.

I have heard, not from any insiders, that a lot of politics goes into who gets to play. That the coaches actually hear from Bishops all the way up to GA's. Can anyone with more inside knowledge confirm or deny that.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostI wonder what Andrew rich thought about the comment where he said they will play the best players regardless of class.

He probably looked at all of the true freshmen that Bronco has played on defense over the years and realized that Bronco wasn't who he had issues with.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostI wonder what Andrew rich thought about the comment where he said they will play the best players regardless of class.

Of the players that BYU recruited that went elsewhere I think Bronco is right:Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostOne of the many dumb things about this blurb is that Bronco isn't just taking a gratuitous swipe at Manti, he is taking one at all the other LDS recruits that went elsewhere.

Christian Tupou- no mission
Uona Kaveinga- no mission
Stanley Havili- no mission
Jordan Cameron- no mission
John Martinez- definitely no mission
(I am starting to see a trend, how can you support a school that is so against your church?
)
SIone Fua- max hall mini mission
David Kruger- no mission
Sealver Siliaga- no mission
Derek Tuimauga- no mission
Simi Fili- no mission
Mau Nomani- is currently on a mission
Will Tukuafu- served a mission
Looks like if you stay away from USC and Utah you are just fine in regards to a mission.*Banned*

All coaches talk out of both sides of their mouth when it comes to depth charts and PT, but the Rich/Fowler saga was egregious as it comes, especially when you guys desperately needed a playmaker in the secondary. Rich, IMO was that guy.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI have heard, not from any insiders, that a lot of politics goes into who gets to play. I wasn't even talking about how his family was treated in Utah Co. I was meaning the demands of the job. It was insane how much he worked. I haven't heard anything like this. The one thing that I do know is that if you are one of Coach Hill's "guys" you are going to play. See last years secondary to back up this up.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI have heard, not from any insiders, that a lot of politics goes into who gets to play. Now "guys" doesn't necessarily mean you are the best one for the job athletically."Take it to the Bank"

Personally, I wish these kids would think BYU was a great place to go, even if they had no intentions of going on a mission. Is BYU really, as some people see it, including my sister, really for only the "elite" of the church.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostOf the players that BYU recruited that went elsewhere I think Bronco is right:

This class thing really has a lot of people in the church bugged. It still amazes me how some people are shocked that there are good active members of the church that can't stand BYU.
Thinking of it. I played golf yesterday with three very active, card carrying mormons. They all hate BYU. Arrogant dicks is the word they use. Funny thing is though, they have kids who attend BYU.
