I still don't see how you can say that Wynn, a freshman who has nothing but spring practice under his belt, should be in the discussion.
Wynn is in the discussion for the QB job at Utah because Kyle called it a three man race after the spring game. The theory, so I am told, is that if there is no separation between the three -- Louks, Cain and Wynn -- during fall camp, then you go with the kid.

Wynn doesn't belong in the discussion if Hall is added because it is presumed that he would separate himself from Louks and or Cain in a BYUTAH fall camp -- if Whit's the coach he probably would want to push Hall by even suggesting the other two had a shot (which is one theory as to why Kyle called it three man race, to push Louks and or Cain). I don't know what Bronco would do.

Hello, of course you go with Hall, my lame attempt at humor aside.

And if Hall's the guy, it probably makes more sense to keep Anae at OC rather than bring in a whole new offense.

      QB: Hall

Feel free to talk me out of any of these picks. If I wanted to go 2-deep, there'd be questions at corner, but there'd be a ton of talent (if not experience) at WR, RB, LB, and on the d-line.

No way do I want Bronco as head coach, I've said that from the beginning as a player I couldn't play for him and I think that's true for a lot of players, whitt has learned to be a really good H/C. Bring in Anderson as DC.

Unlike others I have no problem with Anae as OC

Key is a much better reciever physically than Jacobson, Jacobson I would use as the possession reciever with Brooks as the h-back reciever if used.

DBs, Utahs all have speed and size that you need for a good pressure defense, in past years I would give the edge to BYU's backers, but I like the group the U has this year.

Both coaches are great defensive minds, and both have great results as HC. You utilize both, and put them where they'll help most. Bronco will prepare the team well, and Whit will provide the necessary level of emotion. And Kyle will have that D prepared.

And at WR and DB, I'm going with the known commodities. Could Key/Matthews and Burton will be studs, but all they are is potential right now.

Jacobsen as a possession receiver? He is right there as the fastest player on either team. He is the fastest player on BYUs team right now fresh off a mission.

Also someone earlier (Napper I think) said Jacobsen had not proven anything yet, he had 28 catches for 547 yards and 3 tds on a senior laden team in 2006. That is more yards then Key and Brooks combined in their careers and the same amount of receiving TDs.

If Key is as good as people think he would have gotten on the field last year. THere is a reason his only other offers were to Akron and Utah State.

My problem with Key is he has yet to do anything on the field other than block a punt. I have heard mixed reports coming out of the Utah Camp. Some good some not so good about the kid. Everyone does say he is a freak of an athlete though. Jacobson has actually proved something at the receiver position. Yes he is fresh off a mission but right now I give him the nod over Key mainly because I have seen Jacobson do something at this level. I understand this could very well change after this season with Key.

I am with you on Key. I could see him getting overtaken by Mathews. Brooks is very good as a 3rd man in the slot, where he is likely to get matched with an outside backer. He was murder in the Sugar Bowl with that delayed drag all the way across the field.

Bullshit. Jacobsen sucks and Wynn should be the qb!

If Jacobsen were at Utah he would be the slot receiver. Key is more similar to BYU's optimal receiver type. Jacobsen is shifty and will make people miss, and that is not exactly the type of player BYU can consistently recruit. The BYU system is designed for stronger receivers with size who understand their routes, run them properly and catch the ball in traffic. Key has the size and strength, but my bet is he lacks the discipline and focus. Perhaps he will find it as a senior. I loved his brother Sale when he was a mighty, mighty Idaho State Bengal!

The leap Beck made from jr to sr was tremendous. There is no reason to think Hall won't do the same. Hall could finish his career with 12,000 passing yards and with a solid passer rating throughout.
Going into 2006 those who watched Beck were aware of his spectacular physical skills but concerned if would ever gain control of it all. He was like a kid on ritalin for much of his career up to then. Once he calmed down, which I think Wrubbell or somebody's theory was watching the USU game finally convinced him he didn't need to do it all, he was deadly. Part of the reason BYU was so good that year was because Beck was able to use the entire field and that is why he was an NFL draft pick - he has spectacular physical skills for a qb. Max is much the opposite, he is better mentally but does not have the physical skill set that Beck has. Which is why I think Hall was better as an innexperienced underclassmen but won't be as good as a senior. I think Hall could improve, but Hall reminds me of Steve Sarkisian in where his ceiling is. Beck was more like McMahon. Now, similar to Lee Cummard and Travis Hansen - both Beck and Hall are very good, but at the end of the day there are certain things that those with the requisite physical skills can do that others who do not possess those skills cannot. Having the ability to do more things makes one a better player in most sports. Hall is a very good college qb, but Beck was phenomenal as a senior. I don't think Hall can be that good simply because I don't believe he has the physical skills.

Gen. Burkhalter: "Klink, I am a staff officer."
Col. Klink: "I didn't mean you sir, you're not clever."

Well Brown and Godfrey have possession receiver written all over them, that is a given. Sampson is a tight end, Asiata and Mack are running backs. Casteel did about what you would expect, Reed was great. I thought Brooks was some sub 4.4 guy? Those are Mike Reed type numbers, nevermind Reed had a better YPC then him.
