Comparing Hall and Lance Rice is pretty ridiculous as well brother. They aren't in the same league.

Whit will choose the best fit for the program. I have no doubt about it. He has a proven track record in his decision making.

Maybe if you guys could learn how to read?

I said Hall has been much more impressive than Rice ever was. In fact, it's no contest.

The point was, experience alone isn't enough.

Since there were 2 of us that interpreted it the same way, maybe you should learn how better express your point of view.

As amazing as Alex Smith was, review 2004 highlights and you see that the thing that elevated that team from an entertaining offensive showcase to something truly special was the defense. There have been many teams that can light it up but lack that something that is the stuff of greatness and finally crumble. BYU fans are familiar with this. We saw in last year's faux NC game the relative importance of a gaudy offense and a really nasty tough defense. Defense is Utah's calling card.

            Maybe shorter, simpler sentences?

I agree with SU on this one. Utah's defense is the heart and soul of our team and has been since the days of Fred Whittingham. In times when the offense has been suspect, the defense has made the team competitive. The years that Utah has been outstanding, the offense has carried its fair share. I can't think of one game in the last 2 years that the defense had a overall bad game.

It is not suprising that the year that every one considers BYU's best team
(1996), was their best defensive unit in Lavell's career. The reason that some of BYU's better teams have fallen short against top tier competition is that their defense is "average". It is easy to run up a good record in the MWC with a superior offense and an adequate defense, but that weakness is exposed against tougher competition. I am actually surprised that BYU's defense has not improved given Mendenhall's background.

Did Rice ever play ONE game like Hall's average game?
While a Rice/Hall comparison is definately a laugher, I'm not getting why you think a Ludwig/Anea comparison is.

Ludwing definately has had his head scratching play calls, but it's not like I compared Anae to ver Steeg.

I agree with this. I'd go far as to say that that defense was very underrated.

Utah's offense was damn near unstoppable, but the defense - especially the scoring defense - was why Utah's margin of victory was as large as it was and what separated Utah from every other non-BCS team and from all but a few of the more elite BCS teams.

I would love to have seen what could have been had the powers that be allowed Utah to play any of the other BCS bowl teams instead of the unworthy Pitt team.

SU is correct when he says that defense is Utah's calling card. The best Utah teams in the last two decades have had a defense that was one of the best around.

So much for his 2007 victories against TCU and Utah.

While it's true that a great defense can take you places, if it weren't for Brian Johnson and Louie Sakoda last year, you guys lose 3 games at the minimum, even with that stellar defense.

                            Experienced Senior QB's >>> Defense.

I wondered how long that would take. The Offense generated NOTHING in that game. Certainly, it wouldn't be their best performance, but given that they were playing 11 on 22, the defense was not horrid by any stretch.

I can't remember the last time someone claimed a 27-0 shellacking did not count as a poor defensive performance.

Also funny is that you REMEMBERED the UNLV game, and yet you STILL chose to say there wasn't a bad defensive outing in the last 2 years.
