    2. He has done a stellar job at BYU. Seriously. Stellar. If there were any doubt on this point, just consider where we were in 2004 and from 2011-12.
    3. Continuity. We are losing our head coach, our de iure defensive coordinator, and our de facto defensive coordinator. There's merit enough on its own to want to avoid a clean sweep, especially at a place like BYU, which is run very differently from any other program.
    4. The knocks on Anae are largely exaggerated. Stubborn ol' Dr. Bob is a lot more flexible than people give him credit for-- see the changes to the offensive scheme within 2005 alone, as well as the relative absence of the term "go fast go hard" this season.

My biggest reservation about Anae are the reports that players don't like him as much. I wouldn't know one way or another, of course-- and on BYUSN this week, Brian Logan (a defensive player, yes) said he liked Anae a lot. So whether that perception is accurate, I really couldn't say. I think a lot of the fan base's negativity toward him is a factor of him being BYU's offensive coordinator, the job description of which requires that he be the least popular person on the coaching staff.
PK was on the radio the other day saying he likes Anae too - and that his reputation with the media is maybe unearned. He told a story of asking Anae a question, and Anae simply telling him that he wasn't prepared to answer the question at that time. According to PK, he was interviewing a player in the endzone after that, and when he turned around Anae was there and said "I'm ready to answer your question now". PK indicated that he respected the fact that Anae wanted to think about it before answering.

How much of a wet blanket can Anae be if he's got the TE's and inside receivers making up trick plays, that he commits to call during the game?

I'm sure there are some players who like him less than others. I doubt he is a complete player's coach. But none of that means he would be a bad hire.

Sitake would be a vastly superior recruiter. Good recruiting covers a multitude of sins.
Or in Gary Crowton's case, it creates a multitude of sins :condom:

          Ha.

I don't agree that was a result of good recruiting, but touche' anyway.

As I said-- IF true, or to the extent true, that's a huge concern. But I have no idea how accurate that is.

How exactly you figure that one? Just curious.

In the form of a non-interest loan to Mendenhall, Virginia will pay up to $1,185,000 to buy out Mendenhall’s contract at BYU, where his record is 99-42 over 11 seasons.

For starters, I have been told by members of the Covey family that Anae is one of the reasons Britain went to Utah.

Also, go check twitter and see if you can find any formers players beating the drum to hire Anae.

I understand Dylan Collie doesn't like him, either.

Ha! Can I get an irony ruling on the fact that Dylan left Anae to play for Chow?

You need to also account for the coaches circle money. That is just money from
The university directly. Coaches circle is in excess of $1 million. So they are worst case pretty damn close.

It's also a way for him to save face after BYU turned him down.

I bet BYU isn't interested in Andy Reid, either.
