Sounds like Mendenhall had the same relationship with the local media as Rick Majerus.Originally posted by BlueK View PostA lot of people have said that "In front of a camera Bronco" is a different person than real Bronco. I don't know firsthand, but he does come off a little or a lot weird on TV. Has anyone been listening to national media on this story? Nothing but praise and respect of Bronco along with kudos to Virginia for making a great hire. It's only Salt Lake media that doesn't like him. Not all of that is their own doing. Bronco wasn't exactly very trusting of them and acted accordingly. On the other hand, most of the trash they write or say is nothing more than to generate buzz by pissing off BYU fans, so Bronco's distrust is also understandable."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Minus the harassing deaf people.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostSounds like Mendenhall had the same relationship with the local media as Rick Majerus.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I fully agree. If you want to expand the brand, you spend money on it. They spent it on the downtown SLC, why not their best advertising campaign?Originally posted by Sullyute View PostSerious question on funds. If the church/BYU wants exposure, there are few things better than a winning football program. Why wouldn't the church be willing to pony up to keep Broncos or for a new coach? Seems really short sighted considering the other things the church spends money on.
You have a P5 Schedule but you don't want to pay to compete well in it? Stupid Mormon logic. The handcuffs Administration places on the Athletic Department, "he must be a mission president, he must do firesides, he must be nice, he must accept cheap pay, but he's gotta recruit without recruiting hooligans who make us look bad from time to time, and he's gotta win a lot."
My God how it must suck to be Holmoe."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

It's all about priorities. Collegiate athletics are not that important in the big picture.Originally posted by Topper View PostI fully agree. If you want to expand the brand, you spend money on it. They spent it on the downtown SLC, why not their best advertising campaign?

Bullshit.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostIt's all about priorities. Collegiate athletics are not that important in the big picture.
The LDS faith is bleeding members, losing fights with powerful lobbies and really has no victories. The LDS Church desperately needs to continue to promote BYU as a university in the academic arenas despite the disdain it receives for lack of academic independence for its professors in some areas and its hostility to gays. Winning football games and basketball games brings positive press. It is more important now than ever before to retain some degree of respectability."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
