I didn't see the post game. The difference in this ball game was the pressure they got on Tanner in the first quarter. Their front seven was not as effective the rest of the game. Maybe we made adjustments; maybe they didn't approach each snap with urgency. Maybe a combo of both.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI keep hearing that, but Whittingham seemed genuinely pissed after the game that Utah couldn't put any more points on the board after scoring 35 in the first quarter. So weird. Glad what he did for BYU and the program is in a better place because of him, but the weird public persona isn't something I'll miss.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostWell, he does hope to be remembered as a coach who tried really hard. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Yeah that was funny. I keep seeing these UVA coaches tweeting about how they've never been more proud of a team because they didn't give up. Good riddance. We lost to Utah. There is no pride, dignity or joy to be found in a loss to Utah.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYeah, that's a really dumb thing to say. If true, they would have put the foot right back on the gas after we scored a TD or two.
Whitt was indeed steamed in the post-game interview. Meanwhile Bronco was happy we tried hard.

I said this during the game, as soon as BYU kept a back in to help block we started moving the ball. Several times the back would slip out in to the flat uncovered and Tanner would never look at him.
During one play, Algie ran a wheel route and had Fanaika on him 30 yards down field. Tanner missed him.Last edited by cougjunkie; 12-21-2015, 09:24 AM.*Banned*

I think the bottom line, and you've alluded to this previously, Booker just wasn't that good this year. He was a workhorse, so give him credit for that, but Williams has been a similar workhorse without a drop in production since Booker went down.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostYes. Of course you change your gameplan up 35-0 at a certain point in the game. Not with 7 minutes left in the first quarter. That is the exact same Utah offense we have seen all year. Read option over and over again, the occasional trick play and maybe a few seam routes. Up 35-0 or down 35-0 Utah runs that same offense. They just aren't very good. Nothing wrong with it, when you have a defense that feasts on turnovers, you can afford to have a conservative offense and still win 10 games.Originally posted by mpfunk View Postit is stupid to say that Utah didn't adjust their game plan being up 35-0. Of course the game plan was adjusted with a 35 point lead. Utah wasn't going to risk turning the ball over.
It is also stupid to suggest that Utah completely took their foot off the gas being up 35-0. Certainly, Utah's plan wasn't to for 3 quarters put up the worst offensive performance by Utah since UNLV shut us out.
What really happened. Utah went conservative, but was obviously still trying to score and move the ball. Utah's horrible offensive line, horrible receivers, bad QB, and 3rd string RB caught up with us. BYU's defense also started to play really well.
Also, I'm thrilled that Utah will never have to face Robert Anae again. The guy is an incredible OC. I'd take him at Utah without hesitation.*Banned*

Exactly. You know Whittingham and everyone else wanted to run the score up - they wanted another Oregon game. We're talking about the guy that runs fake punts up 39-0 and says afterward that you never call the dogs off in the 3rd quarter. There was no concerted effort by Utah to throttle things down.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI keep hearing that, but Whittingham seemed genuinely pissed after the game that Utah couldn't put any more points on the board after scoring 35 in the first quarter.
