It is not, but together we can reach. There are plenty of BYU produced masterpieces. As I said though, none is nearly the nuclear bomb of smack of this one. There used to be a thread on these videos, but I think it might have be cougarguard or I'm just too stupid to find it.

      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Just as many suspected (including myself) the UofU basically gives back nothing to the Ute tribe. There are times when no members of the tribe are even enrolled at the U. Little to no outreach is done to get more Ute tribe members to enroll. So basically the U is pretending to care and profiting off of the name while giving basically nothing back.

                  This line is brutal.

The point of the agreements, from the U.’s point of view, “has never been to create a capture campaign and build an enrollment funnel to the University of Utah” of the tribe’s kids, said Thomas Chase Hagood, senior associate vice president for academic affairs.

Even with the specific commitment in the agreement to improve the tribe’s access to education, it isn’t the school’s job to push Utes to go to the U., Hagood said. The university also points to the tribe’s declining population as the reason that its enrollment of Ute students hasn’t grown over time.

Then change your ridiculous 5/8 requirement. Good grief.

And the Ute tribe accepts it, because what choice do they have?

Is the 5/8 requirement the tribe's requirement or the university's?

5/8 is very restrictive - five great-grandparents. In fact the Ute tribe is the only tribe in the country with such restrictive requirements.

The vast majority are 1/4 to 1/8.

Are you suggesting they have little to no leverage in this? As if they pushed back, the university would simply drop the "Ute" name and go with something else? That might be a bad look for the university.

I've looked at the Florida State site and it's hard (at least for me) to determine who similar or different the two approaches may be.

Such a copout by the university. They get the virtue of having a sanctioned NA mascot without having to expend any actual effort, cutting a check for $100K in K12 grants and $50K in scholarships. There are so many things they could do independent of tribal recognition. For instance, they could actually start a pipeline of Ute students (instead of coasting on the impression of doing so). They could expand scholarship opportunities to residents of reservations. They could cut some bigger royalty checks. They could provide funding for students attending USU-Uintah Basin. They could honor the spirit of the agreement rather than spend decades chiseling it down to a lopsided transaction.
