I'm actually kind of shocked by how many Utah fans I interact with today who appear reasonable earnestly believe the Church is bankrolling BYU athletics or at the very least pressuring members to donate. More evidence that the mindset of the fanbases and programs has totally shifted. During the later years of the losing streak, Utah expected to win no matter what. We as BYU fans hoped to break the streak but were always waiting for the game to go bad for us. Utah fans wallowing in excuses that the church is paying for BYU athletes have already crossed the bridge in their minds to admitting we are better and they are looking for a reason why that is the least painful. I also notice KW has embraced the off-season talk of "this [insert unit that struggled last year] is the best I have ever seen in my time here". This excuse making and off season overhyping are things ute fans uses to rightly ridicule BYU about. I am certainly enjoying the change.

Oh how I wish that the church would bankroll BYU athletics. We could dominate if some of that $100 billion made it into the NIL fund. I can’t think of a better use of the widow’s mite but I might be biased as a life long BYU fan.

Drake Toll can be super annoying. But he is one datapoint. Any big 12 specific media that is not affiliated with Utah has the same impression and mindset. Go browse any of the other locked on hosts or John Kurtz who does a great job covering the Big12 on his own channel. All of them agree Utah fans are the worst right now.
