It is kind of sad. With all the bright guys and gals on this board, game talk is quite lacking. I hate saying CB is better, but it is. Over there I found out Langi is probably sitting out the first half. Anybody on here know why?

Six teams played hot potato with the No. 1 ranking that season. At the end, Nebraska, Washington, Florida, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Boston College and Brigham Young were bunched together in chaos.

BYU ended up with an unthinkable national championship, the crown jewel of the proud program that comes to Lincoln on Saturday.
The Cougars had Nebraska, in part, to thank.

The game Saturday is the first meeting on the field between BYU blue and Husker red. But their paths intersected long ago — in 1984.

The morning after covering the Orange Bowl, I phoned my final Top 20 to the AP office in New York City. The AP guy on the other line said, “Well, who do you got?”
I began, “No. 1, BYU.”

I did it without hesitation. I’d do it again.
BYU had beaten two blue bloods, Pitt and Michigan. Meanwhile, the titans of the sport had spent the year slipping on banana peels. In any other year, playing in the WAC would have been problematic for the Cougars.
Like, say, 2015.
“They beat a Michigan team that was not one of their better teams,” said Osborne, a member of the College Football Playoff committee, “but they were the last man standing. They were undefeated, and at that time, being undefeated was what you looked at. “Now, there’s a lot of emphasis on strength of schedule, so who knows?”

BYU was the last non “major” conference team (or Notre Dame) to win a national title. In today’s schedule strength climate, that’s a streak that will likely last.
“BYU was a worthy champion,” Osborne said. “Winning that title set them apart in college football.”

Would Nebraska have liked to play them? As Grimminger said, after the OU loss, “I really didn’t think much about (BYU).”

It would have been fun to see those Cougars play Nebraska. We finally get it, 31 years late.

apparently you missed the Stanley Cup finals.

I watched the glorious 2015 Stanley Cup Finals and enjoyed one of the great Stanley Cup matchups. I did watch Patrick Kane bury the goal that gave either team the first 2 goal lead in the series and pretty much wrapped up the Stanley Cup for Chicago.

Good point though, that Kane wasn't up to his usual greatness in that series. Without Patrick Kane, the Blackhawks are still great. If Kane is charged or traded, that is going to open up 10 million in cap space. There are a lot of players that are going to want to play for the best franchise in hockey and the Blackhawks will remain a dynasty.

I'm glad that everyone cares so much about hockey to turn the BYU gameday thread into a discussion of the Blackhawks dynasty.

I'm getting increasingly more nervous for this game. I feel like both teams are pretty evenly matched, and the fact that it's in Lincoln is not helping my nerves.

What gives me hope is remembering how dominant Taysom was the first four games of last season, and that he was coming off a season-ending injury then, too.

So in short, in Taysom I trust, and the rest of the team can earn my trust as the season progresses. Well, maybe Mitch is there already.

I think we (meaning BYU) win. Losing Pierson-El was a big deal for Nebraska. He's a gamebreaker that was worth a lot of field position on punt returns and a score or two between his PR and WR duties.

Yea really. Biggest game in Ute history and Funk has no friends to talk mighty Ute football with.

Heck the whole nation is talking. Just this morning on ESPN they were talking about Harbough (sp) and his debut with Michigan. It would have been cool if they would have mentioned they were playing the Utes.
