All P5 teams are created equally. Some are just less equal than others. Enjoy the thick of a meaningless conference championship race!

You used to be smarter than this.

Well aren't we talking about access? What access does Utah currently have to this year's playoff?

Yes? I'm not following what you meant by meaningless conference championship race. Assuming you were referring to Utah, as likely as it may or may not be -- if they win out from here including the conference champ game, they're obviously in the playoff discussion; meaningful.

So you're talking about hope and faith, and I'm talking about reality. Ironic, no?

So what did you mean about access and meaningless conference championship races?

That Utah is one of the "less equal than others" P5 schools.

C'mon man, I said Utah would be in the playoff discussion under the scenario, qualified with 'as likely as it may or may not be' and nothing about my hope or faith.

                  • Don't discount Utah's access. They're busy reminding everyone right now that they are 4 spots ahead of where tOSU was in the first poll last year.

So they are taking comfort in knowing that they are ranked where Arizona was ranked last year at this time? ok.

                      • To me, it's a shame that we can't get the playoffs expanded. A four team format is still a beauty contest, and filled with subjectivity. No doubt the haves will continue to exert their influence to keep it as exclusive as possible.

Change has been very slow, but continues to make it's way forward. There's so much money to be made, and I believe that College Football Playoffs will dwarf all other sports when given the chance.

I'll make the argument that one of the great things about college football is that the regular season means something. Lose one game and a team no longer controls it's own destiny. Lose two games and national championship hopes are over unless a team becomes a once-every-20-years exception. In my view, a 4-team playoff is about right although I'm open to considering an 8-team playoff if the four team format proves that a legitimate national championship contender is left out. There's still a month of football left and things will shake out. IMO, the worst thing that could happen for college football would be for a 16-team playoff where the regular season doesn't really matter.

                            • An expanded playoff would make more regular season games matter.
