I liked having some games on New Years Eve day this year. It made a pretty fun 2 days in a row.

If it's got to be 4 or 8 teams, 4 will always be a better choice.
No way. 8 doesn't dilute anything. There's more than 2-3 good teams out there each year. And the more seeds gives us more chances to see what happened to Alabama. I doubt many fans wouldn't want to see more opportunities for upsets.

You're in luck! There are three very meaningful bowl games today. All of them pit P5 teams against one another.

That said, I agree that this is now the perception. There were lots of empty seats at the Fiesta, Orange, Peach, and Cotton Bowls. I'm guessing those bowls were close to selling out in previous years.
The Orange had ~14,000 lower attendance than the year before. Fiesta had 1,700 more, Peach 2,200 less, Cotton 1,200 less.

The Fiesta Bowl was pretty full. I had an extra ticket I was trying to unload and scalpers were only getting .50 cents on the dollars for tickets so if you wanted to attend their was no problems getting good seats.

I still think an 8 team playoff is ideal. Like I mentioned before I think the best setup would be the 5 conference champions, the top non-P5 team (adds a Cinderella aspect), and 2 at large.

This year it wouldn't be as clear cut as most years with Michigan St. and Miss. St, but at their position it is hard to argue that they are the best teams in the country. I don't know of any years where a P5 one loss team is excluded.

This year, it would have looked liked this:

              ACC: FSU
              B1G: Ohio St.
              Big 12: Baylor
              Pac 12: Oregon
              SEC: Alabama

              non-P5: BSU

              At Large: TCU, Miss St.
              the best is this:
              P5 conference Champs game winners.
Big 12 champ gets to choose either the best non P5, Notre Dame (provided they are ranked top 10) or one of 6 at larges.
Best remaining 6 teams play for the 3 wildcard (best non P5 and Notre Dame get guaranteed spots) after the games the committee Ranks the 8 teams left and the play at home of the highest seed. Then the final four play like they do now.

Every one plays the same amount of games.

I've read this 4 times and i'm still not sure exactly what you're trying to say. Also, if 6 teams play for the 3 at large spots, don't some of them end up playing one game more than everyone else?

If this was in place this year then the conference champ saturday (November 29th) would have had these games.

                      Oregon vs Arizona
                      Ohio st vs Wisconsin
                      Bama vs Mizzou
                      Fsu vs gatech
                      Baylor vs Boise st
Tcu vs K state (wild card)
Miss st vs Michigan st (wild card)
                      Miss vs ucla (wild card)

Teams are seeded after the games
And playoffs are played at highest seed
Final 4 does how they do now

..............and were there really 2 more deserving teams this year if you added TCU and Baylor to the mix? 16 will be too many even though it will be awesome. Then the regular season doesn't matter for a lot of teams because the playoff gets too diluted.

I'd even be happy to go for six and let the top 2 have byes or something. Maybe that's too much to ask.

So TCU would play K-state again who is a top 15 team. But Baylor who in your scenario wins the Big12 gets Boise? I wonder who would jump who after TCU dismantles K-state again.

The only good news in this scenario is that it wouldn't take as long for the pac-12 and SEC West to get exposed.
