That said, I agree that this is now the perception. There were lots of empty seats at the Fiesta, Orange, Peach, and Cotton Bowls. I'm guessing those bowls were close to selling out in previous years.
I don't know, but I'm certainly not the only one that cared about the other bowls. And I'm not talking about the Meineke Car Care Bowl or the Beef O'Brady Bowl. I'm talking about the BCS bowls. I don't want to watch any of the non-championship bowls now that the playoff is here.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

    • An eight team playoff could be very expensive for a fan. Not everyone has HFN money or time. Three days of hotels and a flight into Orlando followed the next week by three days of hotels and a flight into Dallas and lastly a flight into New Orleans with three or four days of hotels could be a typical scenario. I guess bb fans do it but I'm not sure how much people are willing to pay to watch their team win a NC.

Why would a fan be required to travel to all three games?

I don't get this argument either. I seem to remember DDD making similar arguments a few years ago. Is the argument that the playoff games won't sell out? I'm fairly confident they would.

If anything it would let more fans experience the playoffs.

As others point out, the other bowls have been dead for years. However despite my best designs I still care when BYU plays no matter how bad the bowl.

Nothing says you would have to attend all three games but it would be fun to follow the run all the way.

I just want to watch more playoff games today. Those games were great.

                          This has to get bigger.

We'll probably see most of these games coming before Jan 1st in the future if hte ratings are crap over time for the games today that mean nothing.

                          • One other benefit of the playoff over the BCS. It makes New Years day special again.

I hated how the BCS would play one game a night from New Years day on. The only exception was the Rose Bowl.

Of course. And those with means would do so. And those with means to attend only one game could do that. It's just not a viable argument against a deeper playoff, IMO. And yes, I realize that these games are being played in locations where most fans would have to travel, but there are plenty of ways to get creative and work around these issues, if they even are issues.

From a business perspective it's always better to have someone banging on the door to get into the party, rather than letting in the also-rans who would dilute the playoff product. If it's got to be 4 or 8 teams, 4 will always be a better choice.
I like four because it maintains the regular season being important, and were there really 2 more deserving teams this year if you added TCU and Baylor to the mix? 16 will be too many even though it will be awesome. Then the regular season doesn't matter for a lot of teams because the playoff gets too diluted.

I'd even be happy to go for six and let the top 2 have byes or something. Maybe that's too much to ask.
