I remember that braided belts were to be worn long, with the loose end sort of looped up and around the part fastened around the waist, such that the end was pointing down on the front of the hip/upper thigh, like this:

I always thought it looked kind of goofy, but I wasn't about to buck the trend.

Was there any engineering rationale for wearing braided belts in such a fashion? I acknowledge your expertise when it comes to belts, specifically canvas belts, if I remember correctly from a different thread.

        Not canvas, nylon.

I always thought that guys did it as a phallic sort of thing.

I have long thought this was one of the better things Triple Father had posted on the interwebs so I saved it in my CB profile. I can't see a BLB or Girbaud's without thinking of him. In fact last year when I saw Quadry "The Missle" Ishmael on Extreme Weight Loss wearing Girbaud's I paused the TV and texted him a photo.

Basically, I think they were standard issue pants for kids that grew up along the wasatch front in the 80s. when I arrived at BYU as a freshman, i was amazed at how many guys were walking around wearing jeans with penis tags on them. I didnt get it. the jeans were almost always secured with a braided leather belt (BLB). When normal folks wear a belt, they tuck the slight excess into the belt loops on their pants. However, when rocking a BLB, you take the extreme excess and form a sort of simple knot around the belt itself, with the excess left dangling. And yes, people actually dressed like this and thought it was really cool.

I think it's believable. You know she didn't want to give it to him so he had to steal it.

              • Ha. I just saw this thread. I knew mpf had drifted away from mormondom, but when did he go full-on mini SU? Craft beers will become appletinis. Instead of an irrational obsession with BYU, it will morph anything LDS. A "longtime" love of hockey, will be replaced by ballet and opera. pretending to care about Utah sports, while obviously not watching them .....ummm. I doubt mrs funk pegged you for an apostate when she was she met you.

Pegging and SU references in the same post? Agreed. Major déclassé.

                        • Nebraska will seemingly match BYU's suspensions for the opener with some of their own. The Huskers will suspend five players (including one defensive starter) against BYU.

                          • I'm unsure which I would enjoy more this season. BYU getting a couple of wins early to build up confidence and excitement for the season. Scenario 1: BYU fans once again talking about going undefeated and how they deserve to be in the playoffs/NY6 bowl, only to have BYU lose to an opponent they should beat and the season being over. Scenario 2: BYU loses the first game and the season is over the same day it starts.

I'm leaning towards Scenario 2 to get a new experience for BYU fans. However, Scenario 1 has been fun to watch each season for several years, so I won't be disappointed.

If I were you, I would enjoy it most if Utah won the PAC 12 south. But I guess you are being realistic and imagining scenarios that are actually possible.
