For anyone interested in a comparison of recruiting rankings versus actual rankings, one might find the linked article helpful. It's a couple of years out of date (Feb. 2015) and is based on data from 2010-2015. Also, it's focused on P5 teams (no mention of BYU).
Executive Summary: Recruiting Stars matter for many teams but not all. Utah St., Navy, Northern Illinois, Boise St., and Air Force were the biggest overachievers in the entire FBS. BYU would have probably made the Top Ten but the article only mentioned the Top 5 along with a table of the Top Ten P5 Overachievers. Also provided is a table of the Top Ten P5 Underachievers (Kansas is #1) and a table of the Top Ten P5 Meeting Expectations.

Now I have no clue what your point is. Are you now concluding that stars do mean shit or are you still of the opinion that they don't?
