We aren't Alabama. You need to come to terms.

Let's put it this way. You may be a good looking dude, you may have plenty of cash...but you aren't taking home the same girl that Brad Pitt is. Sorry.

      2002 - Ben Olson - Undrafted. (BUST)
      2003 - Ofa Mohetau - Undrafted. (BUST)

I love throwing Jake Heaps out there, but he was only a 4 star recruit in 2010. (ALSO A BUST)

What do all of these folks have in common?

      1. They failed to live up to the hype.
      2. They failed to produce.
      3. They failed to be drafted by the NFL.
      4. They all transferred.

Now...I can provide quite a few names of folks that were 2-3 stars, during the same timeframe, that were drafted in the NFL and pulled down a paycheck for quite some time.

Stars don't mean anything. You are looking at 4 different head coaches during that timespan, although Saint LaVell only had one year in the 2000's.
And yet, I would still prefer a roster of 5 star guys.

Stars do matter and if you use the star rating as a predictor of who is likely to be successful, you will find that statistically, the more highly rated recruit succeed more frequently than lower ranked recruits. You cherry pick the two lowly rated recruits while ignoring the slew who failed. That is not proof that BYU can't succeed with 5 Star recruits if we start signing more.

        • Since scouting services started ranking recruiting classes, (2002), here is where we have ranked according to Rivals/Scout:

          Year Rank Record

          2002 - 36/46 5-7
          2003 - 108/59 4-8
          2004 - 65/55 5-6
          2005 - 63/53 6-6
          2006 - 67/46 11-2
          2007 - 56/42 11-2
          2008 - 83/57 10-3
          2009 - 50/40 11-2
          2010 - 40/22 7-6
          2011 - 63/66 10-3
          2012 - 62/60 8-5
          2013 - 71/63 8-5
          2014 - 71/62 8-5
          2015 - 66/61 9-4
          2016 - 51 9-4
          2017 - 66

We had these amount of players playing in the NFL:
          2009 - 12
          2010 - 14
          2011 - 23
          2012 - 20
          2013 - 14
          2014 - 14
          2015 - 15
          2016 - 10

So...our recruiting rank yesterday was 66. If you take 2010 out of the list (That is the Jake Heaps/Ross Apo bump, or as I call...bust) our average ranking is 60.3. Not far off from any other year.

This data is all available. 55-65 is about where we can expect to land in any given year. We aren't going to land a Top 25 class. Just isn't part of our program.

Hey dummy...I didn't cherry pick. Those are the ONLY 5 star recruits we have landed since 2000.

They are major hypocrites. Recruit LDS kids, take money from LDS folks, etc. and if there were a vote on letting BYU in everyone knows they along with Cal. would vote NO. They dislike mormon values, but will take anything they can get from mormons.

So no LDS kids should go there. I assume you also don't shop at any stores or do business with any company that is run by persons who dislike mormons, on any grounds, but nonetheless take mormon money?

Here's some news: There are a lot of people, all over the social and political spectrum, who don't like Mormons. In the world but not of the world, right?

As far as recruiting goes, I would rather all the top LDS recruits go to BYU. But I cant find any basis to criticize a kid who wants to go to Stanford. There are a lot of good reasons to go to BYU, but there are also a lot of good reasons to go to Stanford, despite their stultifying hypocrisy on matters LDS.
                      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

You are arguing two different things and conflating these arguments all over the place. First you start by saying that "stars don't mean shit" to which I responded yeah but I would rather have a roster full of 5 star guys. Your response: "Well I'd like a bigger bank account, better health, and a whole shitload of other things. Yet here I am with what I have" or "Some folks have a hard time living in reality, so I can understand while they are upset."

Not quite the same argument. No wonder you get so pissed and feel like you are talking in a vacuum when you argue about things to which aren't being argued (at least by me). I understand the realities of what BYU deals with and that BYU isn't going to land many 5 star guys, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want them, which also means that to me that, like Nick Saban, I would prefer a roster full of 5 star guys, which also means that contrary to what you earlier stated, stars actually do mean shit.

Especially if you are a young and single LDS person.

                            • More importantly than the 5 star, are landing the top kids in-state. Since 2002 we have landed 2 of the top kids in the state of utah. Matt Reynolds in 2005 (and his dad was a coach) and Troy Hinds in 2012.

Let's take a look at the top 5 players in Utah over the last 15 years.

                              2002
                              1. Haloti Ngata (5 star, Oregon)
                              2. Jake Kuresa (4 star, BYU)
                              3. Jon Clark (4 star, Houston)
                              4. Daniel Coats (3 star, BYU)

I remember when Bronco took over and there was all this excitement about he will land the LDS kids and Utah kids. I called BS and got hammered by BYU chat board homers. When Utah got in the PAC12, Bronco said it wouldn't make much of a difference between BYU and Utah recruiting. Again I got called out by the blue goggleers on BYU chat boards for calling BS.

Unless BYU makes some big changes like realizing like the Boy Scouts have they need to come out of the 60's and get current. Also somehow get P5 (I don't blame BYU for that I don't want us to drop our beliefs to fit in), I don't really see anything changing. Bronco was either naive or just decided to feed the fans BS.
