  • So now only Maxs Tupai remains unsigned from the group of kids with BYU/Utah offers.

    BYU got 11.

    Utah got 7.

    Other schools got 8.

BYU signed two 4* kids, seven 3* kids, and two 2* kids.

Utah signed one 4* kid and six 3* kids.

Other schools grabbed the one 5* kid, four 4* kids and three 3* kids.

      2016 so far:
Kids w/ BYU offers that chose Utah 6: Bolles, Scott, Maea, Fotheringham, Pututau, Fotu
Kids w/ Utah offers that chose BYU 11: Trinnamann, Luatua, Tanielu, Warner, Hall, Tooley, Kaufusi, Pili, Pilimai, Latu, Jensen
If Hans was bugging the last couple of days, don't listen today!

I went to pick up lunch and he and whoever the co host is (Scott?) were talking about recruiting again. Makes sense today.

Their take on recruiting is that BYU started to nip at Utah's heels. But with the signing class, Utah "slammed the door on BYU" and told them to go home.

I don't get it. Utah got a good class. Good for them! I'm sure BYU's class wasn't as good overall. But how do you say that Utah slammed the door?

BYU got some guys who initially committed to Utah. Did Utah get any that initially committed to BYU?

Throwing a wider net - how many kids were committed to the Y, but then signed elsewhere with the change in coaches? And - how many kids were committed elsewhere but flipped to the Y with the change in coaches?

Sitake had what - 6 weeks? - from the time he was named HC until signing day. The fact that he got ANY of these kids who had already committed elsewhere to seriously consider BYU is impressive. The fact that he got some to flip is amazing. I just see this as a sign of potential good things to come. Imagine what he can do when he's got time to actually develop relationships and offer kids while there is more than 6 weeks left before they have to make a decision.

(I may be wrong - but even saying 6 weeks is probably generous. I'm sure some of the players he was offering didn't get that offer at the moment he became HC.)

Anyway - I'd avoid listening to Hans today. I think he's tried so hard to woo the Utah fans for so long that he can't see anything objectively any more. I'm OK with him saying nice things about Utah. But to completely blow off BYU's signing class as sub par?

      • Utah signed a good class after finishing in the top 25 for a couple of years straight. That's the difference. It's not rocket science. I'm assuming the big gets for Utah are on the lines. How did they do with skill players?

        • Hans is most definitely including the JC transfers for Utah but Hans knows shit about shit. He's made friends with Utah's staff and players and doesn't give two shits about BYU anymore. Fuck HO!

Also, maybe he thought he had a better shot of playing sooner at UCLA vs. USC. If he's got NFL dreams (and why wouldn't he), UCLA is as good a place as any.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I think they underachieve based on how they recruit.

There are a few places not so tainted by the stench which is California, San Diego, Laguna Nigel, Pacific Palisades, BH, Santa Barbara, Mammoth, Redding, Shasta, Sausalito, Palo Alto, Lake Tahoe and a few others. But overall, it is not worth visiting and certainly not worth setting up domicile there.

I'm going to go on record now as saying that the former UW qb (is that Smith's cousin?) is going to be a locker room issue for Utah and will cause more problems than he will solve at Utah. Call me a Utah hater, but you can bookmark this post for later if it turns out I'm wrong.
