Hiring Urb is really working out well. Looks like the unLuckeyes are going to extend their streak of no conference titles, no bowl wins. Wonder what Tressel is doing these days?

Jerry Palm makes some wild pics...including the PAC being shut out of the playoffs, which isn't going to happen, and Ohio state making the playoffs, which we now know isn't going to happen. The only reliable prediction he makes is that utah won't make a bowl game, which we all know is correct.

I remember in 2000 or 2001 emailing Palm when his rankings had Grand Valley State ranked near 10. I asked what year he graduated GVS and he sent back a mean reply full of swear words. I think I posted it on CougarFan, his formula seems good.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostJerry Palm makes some wild pics...including the PAC being shut out of the playoffs, which isn't going to happen, and Ohio state making the playoffs, which we now know isn't going to happen. He is president of Youngstown St. Nothing like promoting academic integrity with a guy who cheated at his last college job.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostHiring Urb is really working out well. You realize that Tressel didn't do anything illegal or unethical. It's the ridiculous NCAA rules that are the problem, not coaches that look the other way when their players get a little cash or some tattoos in exchange for hundreds of hours of unpaid work.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostHe is president of Youngstown St. Nothing like promoting academic integrity with a guy who cheated at his last college job.
The NCAA sucks -- exploiting these players to make billions while the players get nothing. I think a lot of us would do the same thing Tressel did -- look the other way and hope the players don't get caught when picking up a few perks.

Yeah being a liar and covering your tracks to make it look like you did nothing wrong is no big deal in the world of academia. I don't even care about Jim Tressel being a president and my citing the fact that he is the president is more of a mock of the whole collegiate system than it is of Jim Tressel. Sure he isn't fit to coach college football but run a whole University, you betcha, sign him up.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostYou realize that Tressel didn't do anything illegal or unethical. The NCAA rules pertaining to the revenue-generating sports are ludicrous -- it is an illegal price-fixing cartel. I don't think what Tressel did was bad at all compared to the way universities across the country exploit and make millions off the unpaid labor of so many underprivileged kids. Unpaid labor? Players receive 4-5 year scholarships. Factor in private university or out-of-state tuition and that's quite a sum (or gaining admittance to an in-state school without the GPA/SAT score that the rest of the student body has to attain) . And I'm not sure universities are making millions off of football. Revenue generation is in the millions but most universities lose money on football. And the few that are in the black with football mostly use those profits to subsidize non-revenue generatinng sports.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostThe NCAA rules pertaining to the revenue-generating sports are ludicrous -- it is an illegal price-fixing cartel. I once had the position that college football should use a MLB-type model and implement a minor league system. Then HS players would have the option, like they do with baseball, between signing a contract and playing in the minor leagues or accepting a college scholarship. But I was swayed by a rebuttal that the majority of underpriviledged football players would opt to sign a pro contact and forgo a free education which would be a disservice to the majority of players since too few will ever make decent money in the NFL.
If underprivileged kids are being exploited, then its because they are not taking advantage of a free education.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Got it, you don't think lying and covering up your misdeeds is a big deal. That isn't my point and I think in the end you and are arriving at the same point (although from different methods), which is the whole thing is a farce.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostThe NCAA rules pertaining to the revenue-generating sports are ludicrous -- it is an illegal price-fixing cartel. I totally agree with you that the NCAA rules and the way that they govern players is ludicrous. That being said, there are rules in place that every organization has agreed to follow. Tressel blatantly lied to the NCAA and attempted to cover up his organization breaking the rules that are in place. So while I agree that the NCAA is a complete joke, I don't think you can say that what Tressel did wasn't wrong.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostThe NCAA rules pertaining to the revenue-generating sports are ludicrous -- it is an illegal price-fixing cartel.
