Part of it is not getting to play good, ranked teams like Utah and TCU, and I realize we can't factor that in because that's not possible if we'd stayed in the MWC. I guess I want better than the typical MWC schedule. That was one selling point of indy, that ESPN is going to set up all these games and is such a great partner and this and that. The bottom line is we're giving home and homes to teams like Utah State and MTSU. I don't think we've ever given a H/H to USU in my lifetime. Anyone of note is making us give a 2/1 or set up a H/H with a neutral game in their backyard.Originally posted by Surfah View PostHow many interesting teams did we get to Provo in the MWC? A mid tier BCS team and then TCU and Utah every other year? It hasn't really changed.
Lots of people are bitching about next season but Virginia, Houston, Utah State, Nevada, Southern Miss and UNLV is essentially what we had in the MWC. In fact I'd argue that it is no different (maybe even better) than our last home schedule in the MWC of Washington, Nevada, SDSU, Wyoming, UNLV and New Mexico.
I realize we don't have much negotiating power. I got back and forth on this. I like some aspects of indy. At the same time we have a bunch of MWC squads on the schedule, and you at least have the chance to play for the access bowl if you're there. We have similar schedules as indy, we play similar teams as indy, we have a similar bowl arrangement, except for worse access to the big bowl games. I guess we get more money, but I don't care how much money we get. That does nothing for me as a fan.
I've kept donating to the Cougar Club and we bought a lot of season tickets this year. I've liked the games we can travel to like Notre Dame, Texas, Wisconsin, etc. Seeing some different programs has been fun. I probably sound like little brother, but I want what Utah has. We've been a great program for 4 decades and deserve better than this. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Who were our rivals? I hate this argument. SDSU is/was not a rival. UNLV is/was not a rival. Wyoming is/was not a rival. Air Force is/was not a rival. Our only rival is Utah and they're not in the MWC anymore. What did conference championships ever get us? I cannot believe we're hurting because we're no longer playing for the mighty MWC or WAC championship or our players aren't winning MWC POY awards. And access to BCS? You mean the best team of the group of 5 will get into one of the BCS bowls, but with the 4 team "playoff" it is just a big money bowl now and not one that matters as far as National Championship is concerned.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI agree it is similar in difficulty without the traditional conference rivals, conference championships, individual conference honors, and access to BCS games...."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I am of the opinion that all of our conference foes had a degree of rivalry with us. Many were not our most important rival, but there is a shared history and tradition that was developed over decades of experience. There is more of a rivalry with Air Force than there will ever be with NMSU. I would play WYO a thousand times over before another game with Idaho.Dyslexics are teople poo...

I would too if those were good comparables. But it is more fair to say that Georgia Tech or Virginia are the comparables to Air Force on the current schedule (Air Force was usually an above average game for us ... Georgia Tech last year was a little better than the quality that Air Force typically gave us and GT was basically the 5th best team on the schedule). I don't prefer Air Force over those two.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI am of the opinion that all of our conference foes had a degree of rivalry with us. Just because they consider us a rival doesn't mean they're a rival. Let me put this in terms I know you'll understand: The Jazz are not the Lakers' rival.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI am of the opinion that all of our conference foes had a degree of rivalry with us. True. To any Colorado fans out there: Nebraska was never your rival and we are pleased to never be obligated to play you in anything again, ever.Originally posted by Surfah View PostJust because they consider us a rival doesn't mean they're a rival. HaHa! Truth. However, I would rather watch a Lakers/Jazz game than a Lakers/Charlotte game!Originally posted by Surfah View PostJust because they consider us a rival doesn't mean they're a rival.
